Time Warner -are you on Standard internet or Turbo/Extreme.. Verizon comparison?

Another Time Warner post, I know. But this one is a little more specific.

Who here is actually on one of TWs high speed packages (Turbo/Extreme/Ultimate..) and what is your experience in regards to speed, reliability, and customer service when service goes down or tech problems arise? and do you get a better Tech response by getting these upgraded packages?

Anyone have thoughts on Verizon DSL Vs Time Warner's more expensive packages listed above?

I used to be on TW standard, hated the monthly issues with slowness and outages so i switched to Verizon. No Verizon issues really with outages (even during the hurricane and storms) but I'm not too sure I like that you are required to have a land line with them now (they no longer offer internet only plans)so I am shopping around.

  • I have TWC Ultimate - 50 Mbps. I've only had one outage since I got the new modem, and that fixed itself within an hour after I first noticed it.

So far (and it's been several months), speed and reliability are excellent. I haven't needed to ask for tech support, so I cannot say whether they're any more responsive to higher speed customers.

They do have a package called Signature Home which originally promised same-day in-home customer service techs, but I think they've now changed "in-home" to "by online chat and phone".

  • I have the TWC Turbo for $9.99/mo. It is more than adequate and superior to the TWC standard service my neighbors have. The tech support is decent.

I would not go back to DSL due to its slower speed.

However, I am eager to get FIOS and despise the corporate collusion that is keeping it from us.

BTW: TIVO does not support TWC on-demand service, but is otherwise superior to the TWC DVR lame service.

  • I also have the TWC ultimate and cust service is ok, not great. The service itself is very fast. I don't pay for cable so it would be the same price, we just stream netflix / hulu / etc. I need the upload speed for work and it's pretty reliable.

Now if there weren't so many goddam wifi routers in our building maybe the signal would be better. But that's not TWC's fault.
