Not Dancing in the Streets

I think "the media" shows images of Middle Eastern people dancing the streets, celebrating terrorism against the US, as a way to engage and capitivate viewers.

It is tempting to point to the photos as justification for reckless U.S. military intervention. I think if more photos like this received widespread coverage, there would be a different effect:

There are news reports and videos of Israelis celebrating the horrific 9/11 attacks as well. For anyone to think that these aberrations reflect genuine Middle Eastern or Israeli thinking is a total absurdity. Thankfully most of them, like most of us, think a lot more rationally.

However, sometimes, everyone in an area DOES hate everyone in another.

People hate us. We hate people. It is a fact of life.

The trick is to remember that the closer we get to only killing the specific people responsible for specific actions (killing us), the futher we get from killing groups of people for their "mere" thoughts (hatred)

...and the better off we will all be.

Afterall, one can THINK whatever they want about a group of people....

I have a few clients from Yemen. One of them came into my office yesterday with a big smile on his face because he and his brother just passed their citizenship tests. I have quite a few Muslim clients and they're all glad to be here and they think all this violence is terrible.

My theory is that one needs to have very limiting world views and/or belief systems in order to cancel out competing information.

Only under such circumstances does terrorism and war prosper.

...sadly, such circumstances aren't rare.

I would say the opposite. We need to expand our world view and work together for its betterment. When I graduated from Jefferson in 1970 our class President Steven Goldstein dedicated our school's year book with a beautiful statement in which he affirmed the great merits of this goal. I have the book next to me and will always treasure that ideal.

You may Google that issue if you wish. I sure as heck am not looking for an argument.

BTW, Iran was the first nation to send its condolences after 9/11 since it (a Shiia nation) has been subjected to far more Jihadi (Sunni) terrorism than any other.
