who cut down all the trees around the synagogue parking lot?

anyone have any idea why they cut down all of the trees around the parking lot of the synagogue on eastern parkway and plaza street? it's right across from my building, on st. john's, and makes the overgrown, dog shit infested brush around the chainlink fence look even worse! is something going to be built here? ugh.
