NYT: Blight on Dean Street?

Comments

  • read it before. only the yards itself is a blight imho. but other wise the other buildings in the area arent. its alot of semantics.

    really depends who you ask i guess.

    i almost brought on dean. before i made up my mind. hmm wonder if that other building is still avaible.
  • I'm with armchair. The yards are blighted, the streets around it are not (for the most part). I can't believe I missed that article. Thanks for posting it Carnivore!
  • I still haven't figure out why the railyards themselves are "blighted." They're supposed to be a big hole in the ground where you park trains. Is it blighted because the MTA never got around to hanging curtains?
  • :lol::lol::lol: Good point!

    I could not have said it better myself. I actually thought they were not so bad once those trees/shrubs were put in on Pacific (bet. 6th and Carlton).
  • Does anyone know- is the current Ratner plan to build over the yards, but otherwise leave the MTA space intact? If not, where are they planning to park the trains? Is it just going to be a "blight" somewhere else?
  • I think the train yards look AWEFUL and very unsafe, but I'm not convinced that should give Ratner cart blanche to supersize the area.

    looks like in their foot print they build right over them.
