Post wrote: A teenager trying to cross Eastern Parkway was hit and seriously injured by a car in Prospect Heights Saturday night, according to authorities.

Cops say the driver was trying to beat a yellow traffic light when he struck the teen.

“He looked lifeless,” a witness said of the victim.

“The driver mowed the guy down and lost control. I ran right up to the kid, and he was breathing faintly, face down.”

The unidentified teen was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, authorities say.

Immediately after striking the teen, the driver swerved into a pole and hit a bench at the corner of Classon Avenue.

The driver, whose name was not released, passed a field sobriety test, and it is unknown if he will face charges. An investigation is ongoing, according to cops.

  • The sound of the crash was so loud, and I dont even think I heard the brakes kick in.

The idea of jaywalking across this parkway, at night, is suicidal. And even afterwards, I saw some girls running across the middle of the street to see what was happening, and almost got hit by a car. Darwin awards coming up.

  • Sadly, the NYPD will probably pat the driver on the back and apologize for disturbing him. "Investigation ongoing" usually means "No criminality suspected."

I'm sick of people speeding to catch yellow lights. Yellow doesn't mean slam the gas down and speed down the block to catch the light. It means exercise caution and prepare to stop light is about to go red.

Unlike the NYPD I'm not prepared to take the driver at his word that the light was yellow and not red.

  • Newguy, the fire dept was driving right behind the guy when it happened. They might have witnessed it and corroborated his statement to the police.
