Brooklyn, NY: Roulette, celebrating 35 years of new and adventurous performance, is thrilled for Fred Frith to return to the Roulette stage to revisit Gravity, an experimental album that was inspired by dance music from around the world, Gravity is a rare “avant-garde dance record” that bounced with the “joyful noise” (BBC) of dance-friendly rhythms even as it challenged expectations and forged a new musical direction for the Frith. With a new cast of friends and musical accomplices joining Frith on stage, this recreation and reinterpretation of Gravity promises to equally astound and delight today, nearly a quarter of a century after it first changed the landscape of experimental music.

Both nights will feature Fred Frith, guitar/electric bass, Marie Abe, accordion, Myles Boisen, sound, Jordan Glenn, drums, Kaethe Hostetter, violin, Kasey Knudsen, alto sax, Dominique Leone, keyboards, Ava Mendoza, guitar, Lisa Mezzacappa, bass, Aaron Novik, clarinet/bass clarinet, William Winant, percussion, Wobbly, sampling

The performance of Fred Frith’s Gravity on Thursday, September 19 will be preceded by an opening set by Aaron Novik’s Thorny Brocky. Friday, September 20 will be preceded by an opening set by the Dominique Leone Band.

Roulette – one of New York City’s premiere venues for experimental music for over 33 years - has reopened bigger and better than ever. Located in a newly renovated 1920s Art Deco concert hall in Downtown Brooklyn, the new Roulette features two levels of seating for up to 400 people(600 standing), an expanded multi-channel sound system, projection screen for film and multi-media events, state-of-the-art lighting system, modular stage, and a specially designed floor to accommodate dance.
