I think there is some measure of over-reaction here.

The "paper" so clearly stated it was coming directly from FCR. And, to play devil's advocate here for a moment, FCR has every right to try to affect public opinion ... that's what advertising is all about. And if they have the resources to do so, why shouldn't they?

And this was so clearly an advertisement, not some nefarious attempt to subliminally sway the masses. And while I'm no fan of the NY Post, I don't think a comparison can be made, nor was it intended that one be made.

Although, I will admit that Bloomberg's "letter to the editor" WAS a bit over the top and possibly even a conflict of interest.

FLUTE is right, but it doesn't mean people need to like it and swallow it? Also, lying, and yes there are lies in that paper, in advertising is par for the course, sure, but this lying about our communities and our money.

so, yes, it is FCR's right to do this, and our's to call it what it is.

I agree with you completely Guest. All I'm saying is that we have to be, in a sense, smart consumers and take it for what it is worth and not over-react. And we absolutely should NOT swallow it lock, stock and barrel. And I think, as well, that we should not underestimate the ability of the average reader to not swallow it whole. I guess, ultimately, it's up to FCR opponents to fire back, which I am sure they have and will continue to do.

Yeah, that was really vile, and sooo transparent. It took me about a half second to see Ratner's name on it. And they had the gall to invoke Walt Whitman of the old Eagle and Standard. On the other hand, this forum is the #1 Google result for "brooklyn standard." So howdy, neighbors, and congrats.

Hmm... a lot of times we are indeed #1 in Google for things like this. I'm coming up with something different, though.
