Brooklyn NY: Roulette, celebrating 35 years of new and adventurous music, are thrilled to present the Swiss-based Ensemble Tzara for a performance of the world premiere of a new composition from Robert Ashley along with recent works by Timothy McCormack and Ensemble Tzara’s own resident composer David Sontòn.
In Mixed Blessings, Indiana for Horn, Cello and Synthesizer, Ashley transforms the ephemera of contemporary American literature, from simple advertising leaflets to mass consumer paperbacks, into a series of text for recitation. Born of chance and determinism, this remarkable work presents the musicians the freedom to choose sequence of the succession of the 16 composed scores.
McCormack’s Interfacing with the Surface explores a tense volley of sounds, an interaction between instruments and static electronic noise. Sontòn’s La metta da feine round out the evening’s performance.
