    Its not a real restaurant.
I've lived in NYC forever. Half of the car services are fronts for loan sharks. Many of the bodegas (the ones you wouldn't really want to go in) sell drugs. There used to be a botanica that I know for a fact was a front for a coke and pot dealer.
  • bklyngirl you are so right.
i grew up in nyc and i can tell the real bodegas from the fake ones in 2 seconds.
the fake ones barely stock their shelves with anything.

haha, so true. Most of the stuff is expired too.
  • I haven't seen a true 'dealing' Bodega in Park Slope in at least 10yrs.
Granted, I've been clean for most of that time anyway. O:)

One of my friends' dads used to be the guy in 'the slot' in the back of the Bodega; when it eventually got busted he escaped and ran out the side, like in 'Carlito's Way':lol::lol:
  • That answers this post.............This is how "those" places stay in business!
    next topic..............:)
  • Anyone remember the place on 5th Ave and 3rd Street? Where Stone Park Cafe is now? They used to have a pool game going on in the back room, practically everything that wasn't in the fridge expired years ago. Then there was the place on 5th Ave between 2nd and 2rd Streets, not sure what's there now. That place got raided a few times before it was finally shut down.
  • Oh yes.. one of those places was known as "the red door" because there was a red door off of 5th ave behind which drugs were sold... ah I mourn for the sleazy side of 5th Ave!! (Seriously.. don't attack me.. I don't miss it at all!) Give me all those mediocre restaurants and 3 Bars a Block over what this neighborhood was when I first moved here.
  • Veets............tell us more.......how was it?
  • Well... It was very "convenient".... If we go back to the 80's in the Slope amenities did not consist of fru fru restaurants and lounges.. amenities were more in the line of not leaving the Hood for necessities...

DISLaimer.. People told me this.. I have no first hand knowledge..LOl!!!
  • Hi:
I used to patronize Jacks often especially on Friday nights when they had guitar players strumming away. I thought their hanger steak was the best in the slope but I haven't gone there in a long time and I think it is because of the atmosphere/decor and not the food. The place feels depressing - no feng shue(sp) the lighting is awful the flake board floors etc. I think if they renovated the place it might do better. The chef/owner is a very nice guy.
