Block party on Bergen, August 19
Just met a nice lady at the bus stop yesterday who's lived on my block (Bergen between Grand and Classon) for 12 years now. She told me there's a block party planned for Saturday, August 19. Anyone here on the board on this block besides me and Jaha?
She also warned me not to pay anything to anyone who's running it because they'll say it's for improvements to the block and then not do anything with it but maybe buy some new flowerboxes for themselves.

..aaaand it's 1:30 in the morning and the block party's still going on. Or at least the guys at the car place across the street are still blaring their music.

I'm not on that block, but I park my car there.

I'm one over on Saint Marks. -

I bet you could hear it last night, then, unless maybe your apartment faces the other way!

I finally made a noise complaint. And then another one an hour later when nothing had happened. They didn't finally shut it down until around 3:30, almost an hour after my second call -- don't know if the cops showed or they just shut things down on their own; at that point I was lying in bed too pooped to move but still not able to go to sleep because of how loud it was. I was SO exhausted and needed to get to sleep so badly I was almost in tears. Almost went over there myself, but there were about 30 people milling around. -
I face St. marks, but seriously, the people next to me are doing a lot of construction and they are SO Goddamn loud that it's all I hear.
Actually, I'm in a new(er) building and three people are doign construction and it drowns out all else. I've always thought Bergen was much quieter then St. marks as we have those stacked townhouse style apartments up and down the block till the school. -
Oh, and btw- do you ever see the man who stands on the corner by the school? He's there just about around the clock, dressed nicely and looks clean, but he just stands on the corner and sometimes does aerobics or something. What's up with him?

Normally it's fairly quiet, but the guys at the car repair place across the street from me have been cranking their music up REALLY loud more and more lately -- they're the ones who were blasting it last night.Squeegee Beckenheim wrote: Oh, and btw- do you ever see the man who stands on the corner by the school? Hmm. I've seen a guy who stands near the school and curses loudly to himself, and then there's a really nice older gentleman who sits in a folding chair on the Classon Street side most afternoons (although I haven't seen him about a month) who I chat with every so often -- don't think I've seen aerobics guy, though! -
totally missed the block party... how was it...
I was home... but... for some reason... I spent the whole weekend in a real daze... crazy
and by the time I got home Saturday night it was 7am Sunday morning... long story

Didn't seem to be much going on except for lots of people chilling in lawn chairs, lots of kids riding their bikes up and down the street, lots of good music (I was actually really enjoying it, until it kept going into the wee hours), and lots of barbecues. The handful of times I wandered through I was probably too hesitant to jump in there and say hi to people -- didn't see the lady I met at the bus stop, I don't know any of the other folks who have lived here a while, and people seemed to really only be talking to folks they already knew. But it was a pretty relaxed vibe, anyways.
