  • WhyFi: Lurch from the Addams Family?

    pitu next...
  • WhyFi-

That would be Lurch, of the Adams Family one of the bookends of my WPIX fix as a kid. Still no trivia, but I'm guessing that Carny is next up in line...
  • Yes and yes!

Wow - gonna be a nice one out there today. I'm still a little under the weather, but the fresh air's gotta be good for me, right Carny?
  • non! je ne suis pas Carnivore

  • What '80s/'90s British pop duo got their name from a garage sale and had their biggest hit used in a recurring SNL skit?

Ah yes, in the spirit of ole WPIX: homeowner, what's your trivia question? We'd like to know.
  • Garden variety cold, I guess. Woke up Saturday feeling like I had a squeak toy lodged in my throat. Yesterday, I tried to excercise it out, 'blading around the park with Lucy - felt great, but I was wiped out the rest of the day.

Maybe I can burn it out with some spicy Jamacian food?

Q, know of any good ways of compressing DVDs on to the ol' PC? I can get'em on there, but I'll be damned if I want'em to take up 4-8 gigs each...
  • for high end video compression, try sorenson squeeze. it's expen$ive at $500 a pop: http://www.sorensonmedia.com/pages/?pageID=2

do you know of any other software Drano?
  • Nothing that I would be able to issue a particularly informed opinion on. Pitu might help.
  • Well, I just tried WinAVI with decent results - 2 hour movie, reasonable playback results, 1.2 gig file size and it was encoded in under 30 minutes... but that's still only using 50% CPU cycles - why can't these programs be properly multithreaded, BigGuy?!
  • MK- I hate trivia as it exposes what a yooge (Trumpâ„¢) geek I really am.

Is the answer to your question Haddaway?

Okay, here's a music one...Name the 80's dance/R&B group that was best known for its codpiece wearing front man?
  • i was thinking Haddaway, too, but he said it was a duo, and he's just a dude.

oh, and the codpiece is Cameo all the way, man. Word up!!!

    so who is it, MK?
  • WhyFi wrote: Well, I just tried WinAVI with decent results - 2 hour movie, reasonable playback results, 1.2 gig file size and it was encoded in under 30 minutes... but that's still only using 50% CPU cycles - why can't these programs be properly multithreaded, BigGuy?!
everything's multithreaded on the Mac side :D/
    didn't Cameo rock Pitu?
  • Sorry, no pitu here but Cameo did indeed rock. Word Up!
Answer: Everything But The Girl ("Missing" was used in Chris Kattan's recurring "Mango" skits.) Did you know this one, Mama?
  • man, I know nothing!
Last week, trivia FOUNTAIN. This week, nice weather dried it up.
What does Mamacita know? What's The Word? Word Up!
[disclaimer: in the actual 80's I would have been a little . . . harsh towards those Cameolians.
I was a Fake Catholic back then. Fake Buddhist is so much better!]

EDIT: TRIVIA DRY SPELL OVER, due to the confluence of the 80s and Cameo.
What regional style of Funk shares a name with an American 80s pop New Wave sensation?
    :D:D:D
  • Here's one in honor of Carnitos and ze 13th page!

The name for the phobia of the number 13???

    Oh and MK next!
  • triskaidekaphobia.

    Right, doctorj?
  • Correct. And wrong.
  • MichaelKeys?
  • Nein.

    Emily next?
  • Non. But the answer to pitu's question is go-go. Right, Quijibo?
  • Like the BigGuy so swimmingly put
    Correct. And wrong.
    Correct! And wrong!
    It's Go-Go, y'all!

    Keys next!
  • Um, ok...the first successful human-to-human heart transplant was performed by...

    (Carny knows this one.)
  • i couldn't remember the doctor's name, so i cheated and looked it up (for shame, me!)

here's another question (with hints built in. i feel guilty for googling MK's question):
who the first actor to personally accept his Golden Raspberry ("Razzie") Awards? the year was 1988, and he won three: Worst Picture, Worst Actor and Worst Screenplay.
  • MK, "It's Go-Go, y'all!" is a popular refrain in said funkalicious style.

Wasn't that heart xplant actually performed by the doctor's Black assistant?
Somebody help me with the narrative (and the facts) here...

    homeowner?
  • Raspberry=Bill Cosby for Leonard Part 6.

What are the two basic ingredients for Brass?

    I say Q is next.
  • Nope.

pitu, the Dr you speak of was (is?) American. The answer to my question is/was not. A hint: he was African.

C'mon Carny, you know this one.
  • you got it, Idlewild -- Mr Jello Puddin' Pops, it was!

And like you say, Q is next
