Park Bet. Washington Classon

PKs!! I think its closed now. People here think it was a strip club. Who knows. Seemed a lot shadier when it was Utopia, but then again it hasnt actually been open that often once it became PKs. As for what happens now, who knows... but they did a lot of work on the inside when it got rebranded to PKs in the first place, so i'd imagine someone doesnt want that investment to go to nothin.
The park isn't so bad. The noise is mostly manageable. -
i bring my little puppy to the playground almost every night, between 1030 and 1230... hope we don't make too much noise.
-
The park is a Haven for Drug dealers and gang members which will certainly guarentee you an eventful summer. As for PK's, the illegal strip club has been closed down by court order, and shouldnt be opening anytime soon.
-
Well, if shit goes down this summer, I know I can safely label Captain Salty's pooch the scapegoat...err...scapedog
I guess PK's piqued my interest when I noticed several cops exiting the premises at midnight about a month or so back. Not unusual, except that they were cradling an impressive number of unopened liquor bottles. I'm sure they were bringing them back to the station house for safekeeping  -

do you actually sit around paranoid all the time or do you just like to amp up the drama for sport? i can't decide. -
i ride my bike across park place, sometimes late
and i am always grateful that the park is usually quiet and DOESN'T attract
"dangerous" crowds, always feels more "family" to me -
A few years ago my girlfriend lived on that block, right across from the playground, so I was there quite a bit. It's not bad at all.
Weed-selling was all over the place, but it didn't effect us. The building *did* get broken into from the back fire escape, so def. lock your window gates. -
Open drug sales and burglary? How does that translate into "not bad at all"?
-
i've consulted the elders and thrown the runes and have come to this conclusion. open drug sales are great for drug users and drug dealers and burgary is ideal for robbers and insurance fruad.
-
WHat's the deal with apts without windowgates? Should one ask for them?
Also, I have seen weed dealing upfront and center all over washington avenue in broad daylight. i mean, people shouting weed left and right and men with baggies. i just smile and nod and they don't seem too bothered by it, but then again, neither am i. -
If stating facts is "amping up the drama" then I plead guilty.
-
Jack, do you actually live here anymore?
-
I live next to the park and it is totally safe. They occassionally have a little party now and again, but its like a little block party and doesn't last that late. early in the morning last fall some poor kid got sent there to practice his saxophone.
and KWOAC, amping up the drama means coming on here and stirring things up and pretending like the drive-bys and rampant crack whorage in the park are out of control. its your usual MO. all your posts are rife with drama. So i am trying to figure out wherere you just live your life that way, afraid of every little breath you take, or if you like to stir the pot. either way, i feel kind of sorry for you, because I think you must be a pretty unhappy kinda guy. life is too short to be so unhappy. -
I'm aware of what amping up the drama means, However simply responding to a thread about long nights this summer doesnt fit the criteria of being paranoid. I've also never seen anyone playing a saxophone in that park, but I do remember the guy getting shot there last summer.
-
So 1 incident makes the whole thing?
Hmm. I remember a guy getting shot on W86th in Manhattan. Now theres a street rife with violence and decline.
do you actually live close to the park? ever pass by it?
so again, i say I feel kinda sorry for you. cause i actually think you are paranoid all the time. you take one incident and paint a broad brush stroke with it. Which is totally cool. It means you don't come around here. And thats fine by me. I think its probably more fun without your edginess anyway. -
What difference does it make where I live? I've noticed that's one of your favorite ways to respond to a statement, as though living in or outside of an immediate area somehow changes the crux of the matter.

It's true, that why we hate the french as a habit

Where have you noticed that, Jack? It's not something I'm aware of randomly asking, or ever asking actually.
In this particular case, I asked because I'm not interested in talking about a block that I have a connection to (used to stay at, still visit our friends in the building) with someone that's just trying to stir sh*t up from afar. This is the beauty of having a neighborhood board.
A couple of guys hanging around selling weed is pretty common all over NYC. I don't smoke, and they don't bother me. And it's a far cry from a drug bazaar. My personal experience on that block is pretty comfortable.
brooklynleather, imho you should have window gates on any windows that are accessible - first floor or fire escape. I don't know if there's any law about it (check http://www.tenant.net/nyc.html ) - I think that's only for window guards for keeping toddlers from falling. Actually, there must be some fire regulations about which kind of gates are legal -- you have to be able to get out in an emergency.
Anyway, once it's warm and you want to leave the window open it's better to be safe.
Karl, you are cracking me up. -
karl is actually a 27th level illusionist but karl tries to keep it humble

I ride home on my bike down that block 5 or 6 times a week, after dark. It's fine. Last year I got caught in the rain, and popped into a doorway to wait it out along with 7 or 8 of the local outdoor "businessmen". No problem. Get window gates, if you don't, you are leaving yourself open to something easily avoided. If the apt. doesn't have them, I believe it's up to you to get them, unless you can talk your landlord into it. Move there, if you like the apartment, you'll be fine. I've also stopped for supplies at the bodega on the corner of Classon and Park, many, many times. Nice people.

nope
I know both jayce and leeho and they are NOT the same person in any way, shape or form. but. keep guessing!
oh, and neither of them is youngsnitch. haven't met him, but he's not either of them. -
oh, and where does one obtain window gates? my fire escape window is a bit vulnerable.

are those the other users that have called you paranoid?
wow. I think LeeHo and YS just took a great step forward in my ranking.alafairnadia wrote: oh, and where does one obtain window gates? my fire escape window is a bit vulnerable.
Pintchik has gates you can check out. The scary full window ones or the "slow em down with the kiddie guards" ones too. -

the people at happy hour = actors.
you think you're clever, but i'm on to you. -
I've noticed that threads that appear to touch on the criminal element of Prospect Heights/Crown Heights often get down played, usually with an attack on the poster. IE: The girl Robbed on Franklin, or the numerous shootings or shots fired incidents in the neighborhood. The first step in combatting Crime in the City is, acknowledging it. Prospect/Crown Heights historically has been a crime prone area for the last 30 yrs, although the neighborhood is getting better and safer by the day, there are still areas that need improvement. Being realistic about the present conditions facing the community is not a problem, however living in denial is.
-
downplayed? did you notice the thread about the shooting outside of ripple, or the gunshots on st. johns a few weeks ago? people do give a shit. the naysayers tend to be a few disgruntled individuals who would probably cry as loudly as the rest of us if someone pointed a gun at them.
I think the problem is more one of people trying to hype up the danger in the neighborhood. criminal activity happens all over the place, not just in one particular park. if you have evidence that there is a lot of violence in a park, the one this thread is about, for instance, please do share. but saying there are a lot of drug dealers and gang members that hang out there without specific incidents of violence make the place no more scary than the average bar. the evidence I have quoted previously regarding PK's being an illegal strip joint came from an incredibly reliable source who makes the rounds of all of the bars in PH/CH. I'll give you 3 guesses as to his profession. -

living in denial is a problem.
as is living in fear all the time.
look back over your own threads, KWOAC... all your posts are about shootings and pistol whippings and break ins and what not. You seem to enjoy cultivating a climate of fear.
So again, I say, as someone who is right close to the park, its safe. There are some weed smokers all over the place, sure. And yes, there was a single shooting there last spring. But like I said, thats happened in the UWS too. I don't see people painting the UWS with the broad brush-stroke of fear that you are with this one little park that I suspect you know nothing about and probably haven't even passed by.
Since I stare at it alot, I'll point out that there are birthday parties for kids thrown there. There are old guys that play chess there. Dogs seem to have a little meet and greet there. One time they had this fun potluck thing with a DJ there that went on until 11pm. A kid sometimes practices his saxophone there. A guy used to be there every day painting. And yes, sometimes someone sparks up a joint. -

Sweetie, no one is calling you a dead horse. Just an alarmist.
