does anyone belong to/know about the community garden on st marks between underhill and vanderbilt?

i'd like to join this year, if possible. (i gave my nformation to someone there last summer, who said he'd pass it on to the leader of the pack, but never heard anything back.)

if you know whom we should talk to, would you please post or PM me? thank you.

  • My wife knows a woman that's a member - you're talking about the one close to Vandy, right? Where you're assigned a little plot? I think that there's a bit of a waiting list, last I heard, but I'll have the wif ask next time she sees her (she's just a few doors down).
  • that's the one -- thanks. last year we found it late in the season and they said we might be able to join and get a key even if there weren't enough plots for us to have one. we'd love to have a plot, but even if that's not possible, we're interested.
  • Now that I think about it, the CSA held an event there last season - I'll see if my wife has any of the direct contact info, too.
  • would you PM me any info, too? thanks.
  • was information about this shared? if so can you guys pass it over to me? thanks!
  • Subject: I'm a member!

I'm a member of the garden you speak of ("The Prospect Heights Community Farm" - as we're officially known). It's true that there is a waiting list for beds - however, if you spoke to someone last season, perhaps you're already on the list?

The best way to get a bed is to keep showing up at meetings and helping out on our work days - you're more likely to get a bed if you show your face regularly (even if your name isn't at the top of the list). People often don't show up the next year after putting their name on the list the previous season, so we end up giving beds to folks who seem most dedicated to get involved.

As far as I know, our first spring meeting is scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday, April 15) - but given the nor'easter that's supposed to be arriving, it's likely to be postponed.

If you'd like to get on our listserve, you can go to our Yahoo group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/prospectheightsfarm/ - I would also say you could pm me and I could tell you more, but I'm not really up on how pm'ing works, so try at your own risk!

And lastly, I should of course mention that even if you don't get a whole bed to yourself this season, there are plently of other ways of getting involved (sharing a bed with someone, gardening in one of the community beds, composting, etc.).
  • thanks, marsstars!

incidentally, you can find PMs (like the one i just sent you) by looking at the top of the page, under the board title and the link to the site rules, where it says "you have 1 new message" (or "no" or "978"). if you click on the "Profile" link also up there, you can set your preferences so that you get an email notification when a PM arrives.
