Brower Park Situation — Brooklynian

Brower Park Situation

We're looking to rent an apartment on the corner of St Mark's and Brooklyn (corner of Brower Park) and I've been hearing very mixed things about the area. Some friends who live there swear by the area west of Nostrand; others (who grew up in CH but now live elsewhere) say it's all still "rough." What's the verdict? I ask only because of the recent shootings in the area, some more seemingly random than others. Thanks

  • There are some newly renovated rentals on st johns b/w nostrand and new york.. They are being rented thru corcoran so probably a fee.. but we live on the block and feel completely safe... I have heard mixed things about the park but not for awhile and the renovated children's museum is helping the safety
  • That area seems to be very up and coming. The properties there are going on the market left and right as they are becoming a much desired place to live as the architecture is gorgeous. Once the Children's Museum is complete that area will be much safer and even more attractive. Of course common sense still rules...perhaps sitting in the park after dark is not such a great idea... However, a good community group should force the relighting of the park. I did meet a family that very recently moved into that area from Park Slope and love it there…good luck!!
  • I live nearby and often take walks around Brower Park at night. I always feel safe. I think it's a great neighborhood.
