RCN? — Brooklynian

RCN?

So after doing some research on time warner alternatives, I've come across RCN. Seems that they serve Park Slope.

My big question is - Has anyone had them? And if so would you recommend RCN?

We're mostly interested in internet (Verizon doesn't serve our building), but the tv option seems to be cheap so I'm open to that as well.

Many thanks!

  • RCN from my knowledge only wants to serve large building complexes.
And put that building complex under exclusive contract for tv - they wire the building, they put their antenna atop the building to get the signals, etc.
Unfortunately according to the RCN website and a contact in the business, RCN only serves Manhattan and certain parts of Queens and the Bronx.
Most of their service is via microwave, which is technologically limited and cannot offer phone, internet or HDTV options.
  • ahh, thanks for the info - the way their website works is not user friendly. seems they offer some sort of dial-up like service.

    scrw that!

    thanks again for your insight
  • I tried that, but they dont service my address
  • I had RCN when I lived in downtown manhattan. They were the only service provider for all the high rise buildings on wall street at the time. It was nothing short of awful. I spent 10 minutes of every hour of being on the internet physically unplugging cables and rescrewing everything back in to reset connections. It wasn't even cheap. Time Warner is far from amazing but I'd stick with it any day.
