Club on Waverly
The noise from the new club on Waverly Ave (between Fulton and Atlantic) is driving me insane. Does anybody have any info about it? Or is it bothering anyone else...besides me and my upstairs neighbor? There are only vacant lots between our buildings, and it sounds as though they haven't bothered to soundproof. Now with the warm weater there are a bunch of drunk kids outside, smoking. Grrrrrrr.

i know there's a club on atlantic, but didn't know there was one on waverly. that's too bad. it's probably an illegal club built just for the summer..
-
Oh. I'm not sure if it's an illegal club, actually. I call the 88th precinct nearly every weekend and they seem to know all about it. I'll say noise and Waverly Ave, and they respond "oh, the club?" It's located where the old gym used to be.

Subject: Actually, it's a very nice place
I went there this past Thursday & it's a really great scene. It's not a bunch of "drunk kids". It's actually a more mature crowd enjoying good music and dancing. A lot of people there are artists and local business owners. The people that run it are quite nice. Why don't you just go over & introduce yourself and work together to find a solution about the noise? It doesn't have to be an adversary situation. -
sounds cool. do you know the name? wondering if they have a web page i can check out.
-
that's a good idea. it's not an adversarial situation, except that my windows and walls are shaking because of the base...and it's, oh, 1:30 am. if they're going to be there, they should sound-proof...out of respect for other people.

Yeah I really recommend going over there and talking to the owners. It's always a good first step. -
call me jaded, but i think you're going to get a knuckle sandwich if you go up to them.

if you go over there yelling and screaming, sure.
but i don't recommend that. -
complain to 311. Get a case number. Follow up after three days. If nothing changes, write to the Mayor and Borough President. Put all facts including timings, pictures etc. Send it by registered mail. Write to the NYPost and Daily News and other local rags.
Call 911, and they will get the precinct on to it. Just calling the precinct will not get you the attention. -
I would have suggested that you meet the owners instead of first heading to the police and calling 311. The actions you have taken has already caused tension between the two parties. Maybe something could have beed worked out. If you were as neighborly has you claim, that would have been your first step instead of writing "LOUD BASTARDS" on the light pole outside of a very nice establishment. That action alone speaks volumes.
Why don't you visit and let your hair down and enjoy yourself. -
Subject: night club and shootings
I also live behind this club. There were shootings oustide the club two weeks ago. This club is a very different place when it opens and when it closes. The verbal fighting outside is awful, mostly women screaming at men. This past weekend there were major fights going on between people with women begging their men to get in the car and go home before things get worse, etc...I can watch and hear the whole thing from my window.
The shooting was the last straw for me. Since this shooting there has been another on Fulton between vanderbilt and Clinton Ave. The 88th precinct needs to get more involved.
And, as some of you may know there were chairs thrown into Locondi a couple weeks ago during dinner hours...
And, we aren't even into the hot months of summer yet!!!
I am all for new bars in the hood, but since this one opened, there is an obvious increase in crime in the area. -
What is Locondi?
-
To Disk74,
I hear what you're saying. I have lived in this neighborhood for 34yrs and I beg to differ that 1 club has caused a increase in crime. The incident on Fulton and Clinton had nothing to do with the place on Waverly. I don't even think they were open that day. As far as the verbal confrontation outside of the lounge, that behavior goes on at 95% of bars and lounges. Lets not use this lounge as an exscape goat for mishaps in the neighborhood. I doubt if the club hold that much weight.
Also what does Locondi has to do with Waverly?
Let's not confuse the readers. -
Relax, it's wrong to assume that anyone on this board was the one who wrote "LOUD BASTARDS" on the lightpost in front of the club.
jocelyntoday, the poster was talking about Locanda Vini e Olii over on Gates and Cambridge -- they had an incident a couple of weeks ago where people threw chairs from outside into the window. -
Bifteck,
I didn't point finger as to who wrote it. I was speaking in general to those who have a problem with the noise. So again, Relax -
OK, fair enough. Didn't get that from your post.

Subject: JELANI LOUNGE
I know the owner he has a ZERO TOLERANCE for DISTURBANCE. His MOTTO thru out the years are if you aruge in any of his bars you are ban and he shuts the party DOWN. So if its crowded at 1am and anyone starts to fuss he turns the lights on and tells everyone have a GOODNIGHT -

Get a Life. -
Sorry but any club whose house drink is an apple martini is not for me.
-
Can anyone tell me the name of this club? I have actually heard good things about it and was hoping to go. Don't worry, I won't be yelling and screaming outside after too many apple martinis. Promise.
-
It's not a club it's a bar/lounge. The house drink isn't a apple martini. If you want to visit I encourage you to do so. I am in support of Jelani Lounge (hint) lounge not club, not because I frequent but b/c I know the owners and I support them.

Coming from a completely unbiased poster?
Did they sound proof the walls and ceiling? That would really speak to the issues raised in the original post. I would hate to have a noisy business under my apartment. -

...that doesn't answer my question.
You took pains to say that it was "a lounge, not a club." What is the difference between a lounge and a club? I thought they were the same thing.
I know you want them to succeed, but even hired advertisers start by finding out and paying attention to "what is it that the public is asking." -

Lounges tend to be quieter, with more sitting room, relaxed atmosphere, and generally speciality drinks. Clubs are for dancing mainly with a bigger dancefloor area and louder music. -
lounge doesn't have a cabaret licence
(maybe)
