  • Never been there, but I think you can dance at Catty Shack on 4th Ave. It's primarily a lesbian bar...not sure if you are a woman or not.

Does anybody know if they are welcoming to men (the non-drooling type)?
  • Hum, well there are others out there on this board who want to "Cut a Rug":

  • I like swing and other kinds of ballroom dancing. I've never been there but I think the Oak Room Restaurant at Grand Prospect Hall has a cabaret license.
  • I don't see enough answers! Where do people dance in Park Slope? Sure sometimes people bust out jigs to acoustic klezmer at Barbes, but where in Park Slope can you find a consistent DJ and dance floor?
  • there used to be a monthly dance party at southpaw called the rub, but i don't know if it still goes on there--i think it might have switched venues.

otherwise, i don't really know of anywhere you can dance. somebody with a big, open apartment just needs to have a dance party in p.s.
  • so, i just did a little research and sure enough, the rub is at southpaw on this Saturday night (May 5) from 10pm-4am.

here's a little info on the rub from their myspace page:

"The Rub started out as a Brooklyn based classics and hip-hop party in 2002 and since has exploded into a global phenomenon. Over the past year the three members of the crew - DJ Ayres, Cosmo Baker & DJ Eleven have taken their no holds barred approach of mixing and kicked it into overdrive, propelling the 3 DJs into the spotlight and letting the world know what it really takes to rock a party. The Rub has been widely recognized as the best monthly club night in New York City for several years, and since they have taken the show on the road the rest of the world has caught on, as the boys have rocked all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Sweden, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Israel, Bangkok and more.

Ayres, Cosmo and Eleven have been featured on MTV Canada and in magazines such as Spin, Vice, XLR8R, The Wire, Hip-Hop Connection (UK) and URB, where they were named Next 100. In addition to their devastatingly good live performances, the have released at least 50 CDs between the 3 of them in the past few years, several pieces of vinyl, and are all continuing to record and make music to shake the asses of the masses. Let's Rub!"

    should be a good time.
  • Now that I've discovered that I kinda like dancing, I want to find some more places too. Don't forget Secrets in Crown Heights!
  • Was at Royale last Friday night. By midnight or so the small danceroom in the back was jumpin' (5th Ave between 12th and 13th)
  • Did anyone go to The Rub @ Southpaw? Is it fun??

Is the royale a gay club?
If not , what kind of crowd goes there?
  • The Rub is awesome. Went to Southpaw for that party (missed it that time) but saw a different band--and we danced all night!!
