Wed.: Community Mtg to discuss 16 story bldg @ Wash/Myrtle

Greetings all, councilwoman, Leticia James has helped to set up a meeting on Wednesday evening where we can all talk together about strategies and developments to stop this building.

The meeting is at St.Lukes parish house, on washington between willoughby and DeKalb, at 7:30.

We need to get the word out.
If anyone has any questions or wants the contact info of the organizing group, email: buildingtootall AT yahoo DOT com

Personally I'm just hoping we can get the building to be a little more reasonably sized considering it's surrounded by nothing but 3 or 4-story wood frame houses.

For more info on the development plans see the Brownstoner post here.

    Good luck.

I hope there's a good turn out as I don't think the size of the building that's being described and it's location are appropriate for the neighborhood.

Not to be labelled as an anti-development person but there are more appropriate sized buildings going in on Ryerson, Grand and Stueben that won't be destroying the neighborhood.
  • Are there any renderings yet?
A sixteen story glass box would look bad for the area but an urban cactus style building might be OK.

from either of the adjacent blocks (wash ave or hall street) it would be a towering monstrosity over all of the 3-4 story wood frame houses.

there's nothing on the north side of myrtle avenue that even approaches that height.

Right, I'm not against developing the lot. And I understand Myrtle Ave is up and coming, but 16 stories is over the top. 6 stories is much more reasonable.
  • What if they built a replica of the Colossus Rhodes tho? I'd be for that.
  • As long as it had my face on it, or perhaps that of Stephen Colbert
