  • Thanks, it's nice to be appreciated. I know dealing with cops and precincts can often be frustrating, but a glimpse into the other side can also be very enlightening. The NYPD does offer a ride-along program, in which members of the community can cruise around in the back of a patrol car and see what it's like being the enemy for a day. Also for the brave a daring the NYPD offers a citizens Police Academy course free of charge.

really? that's kinda awesome. I might do that one day. thanks for the tip.

(and yes, for the record, despite my frequent arguments w/ you and ParadeRest, I also appreciate your input. some of us have no clue how police departments operate. and, frankly, I know some really awesome IT people who could help out with the departmental IT people. a great database running on linux would be cheap and absurdly helpful - with existing hardware)
  • As for Homicide #4 heres info reported by The Daily News: Drugs tied to slaying

Three men pushed a woman aside, forced their way into her apartment and shot her husband to death yesterday afternoon in Brooklyn, cops said.

Marcus Howard, 48, of St. Marks Place in Crown Heights, who had eight previous drug-related arrests, died from a single gunshot to his chest, cops said.

His wife was not injured and no property was stolen, leading cops to believe the hit was drug related, cops said. There were no arrests yesterday.
  • the police showed up and took notes.

    I do as well.

But I do have to say that this:

...WAS really dismissive. Frankly, I was surprised you said that -- surely someone with your apparent experience in police work should know that harassment often leads to more severe crimes, especially when a woman is the victim.
  • Well the poster was not gender specific, and my intention was not to belittle the severity of the crime. Unfortunately the precint takes hundreds of Aggravated Harassment reports a year and a large majority of them are garbage. Aggravated harassment can be as little as making a phone call to someone with no purpose of legitimate communication.
  • Subject: Geez.

I am going to file a complaint and I don't want to air my private business in a public and somewhat anonymous forum so I am not going into details, but my charge was serious. Serious enough for me to report and serious enough for me to complain about it when a police officer didn't follow through on her end.

And yes, I am a woman.

but their service and selection were lacking

maybe 78 has better service and pastries
  • Leather, just out of curiosity, was the officer's name also a royal title? For example, King or Duke? Please don't post the name, just a yes or no.

    Eh moot point, right?

I think the mute point speaks for itself.
  • She is defenitely royalty!
  • I participated in the citizens police academy in 1999. It was a really good experience. The different classes (sociology, etc) and the ride-along were definitely the highlights. They also have this thing called the F.A.T.S. machine...pretty sure it stands for firearm training simulator. Some replica guns are hooked up to these air tanks and a scenario is played on a video screen, usually involving a car being pulled over, and a hostile occupant exiting the vehicile. As a citizen cop, you have to make a decision whether or not to open fire, if the situation calls for such a measure. The air tanks help to replicate the recoil of a real gun being fired. In any event, it was a lot harder to judge such a situation than I thought.
