Best cab dir. to tell outoftownerwbaby Newark to PS?

I have a friend who is flying into town with her 1 year old in hand. She's never been to NYC, nevermind Newark. She's going to cab it to the south slope but I was hoping to tell her the best way to tell the cabbie to go. Are they all the same? I'm assuming it's going to be at least $50 (because the flat rate is only to Manhtn. correct?).

Any suggestions? I myself have never been to Newark Airport either so wouldn't know what to tell her.

First I would encourage her to call a car service and have them meet her and bring her to PS. I use Legends Car Service - 718-788-1234. It's under $50.00

But if she takes a cab - do not go through Manhattan - go across the Verrazano and then get on the BQE and exit at 38th Street and then turn left on 4th Avenue.

It depends on what time your friend is flying in. I took a cab from Newark around 10 p.m. on Monday night and we went through Manhattan - super fast.

So telling her to tell the cabby take the verrazano to P Exp (I know the badly marked exit indeed!) would work?

And how long would it take (knowing it's not rush hour time)....

I have made it btw. S. Slope and Newark Airport within 35-45 minutes with no traffic and knowing where I'm going

9 PM on Friday Sat or Sunday night there will be traffic coming into the city.

If it were me I'd just call Eastern Car Service 718 499-6227 there's a good chance they will have a car there or near by and they will know the way back and you won't have to watch the meter. Plus you won't have to wait in a taxi line. I don't know about Newark but I've waited in line at JFK for 1/2 hour for a cab. You can call when you land on the taxi in.

Tell them to look for Exit 24, I don't recall anything saying Prospect, or even that 24 is coming up, just suddenly bammo "Exit 24" on a little sign right on the exit off to the right.

I tell people to stay in the right lane after 38th Street and be prepared to get off with no warning. There is a small green sign saying "24", but nothing indicating it's Prospect Expressway.

Have Arecibo pick her up, they picked me up in Newark last week, $56 bucks, most cabs from Newark charge 80-90. They also know how to get to Park Slope.

There is a bus to Manhattan from Newark, and from Manhattan you can catch the subway. Or from Newark take AirTrain and Amtrak to Manhattan, and again subway. Much, much less expensive, probably would only take a little longer time (depending on traffic), but a little more hassle. --E.

If you're traveling light and you know your way around town, the buses to Port Authority are the way to go, and will connect you easily to most Park Slope subways.

If you're traveling heavy - as I tend to - a car service is the only way to go. The NJ cabs are reluctant to take people to Brooklyn (I remember a late evening when nine out of ten refused, and the tenth demanded extra cash to go).

The Brooklyn car services will know the best way to go, will charge you a flat fee, and you will be able to enjoy the ride without having to worry about the meter.
