found - cat on 4th ave bet. pacific and dean
Hi,
this is my first post on this forum, so if I violate any etiquette, I apologize in advance...
This is a picture of a lost cat found in Brooklyn on 4th ave between pacific and dean. The cat is clearly from someone's house and is not feral (She literally camped on my front door begging to be let in). She is also clearly used to being handled by people (I picked her up outside and carried her upstairs)...
Given the street traffic here, I can't see her crossing 4th ave, much less atlantic or flatbush, so my guess is that she is from the boerum hill area / Gowanus somewhere...
Anyway, I already have a cat, but I sort of inherited her (Long story there) and don't really know about how to take care of a cat besides basic maintenance for an indoor cat, so I'm not sure what else to do for an outside cat...I sprayed her for ticks and fleas with one of those Hartz sprays and otherwise let her eat a bit at a time (She was thin as a rail and I didn't want her to eat too quickly and possibly vomit). I'll try to call a vet tomorrow morning to get her checked out and post some pictures on lamp posts outside hoping someone recognizes them... Otherwise, I'm not sure what else I can do to locate her family...If anyone can suggest alternate means to locate her family, or as a worst case, some sort of animal rescue, or is interested in adopting her, that would be appreciated...Anyway, the picture is below...I hope someone recognizes her...
Please PM me or respond to this thread if you have any suggestions...

Thank you so much for taking her in! It really was wonderful of you. I foster for Slope Street Cats so I can give you some advice. Make sure she's separated from your cat just in case, you don't want your cat to get infected with anything the stray might have. I usually keep my fosters in my bathroom until they're vet checked. What vet do you use? They might be willing to give you a discount since you took her in.
Also, if you're able to foster her for a little while I can ask my contact at SSC if they can post her info on Petfinder and Craigslist. She looks beautiful and has very unique coloring, since she's good with people I don't think you'll have a hard time finding a home for her. You can PM me your info if you're interested and I'll talk to my contact about helping get her some exposure. Thanks again!
P.S. If you don't have a regular vet I have a great one. I found 2 cats right after Christmas that a woman in my neighborhood put out on the street. With the help of everyone here and my vet giving me a discount I found homes for both in about 3 weeks. Shortly after that I volunteered to foster for SSC. -
I don't have a regular vet...Suggestions in that regard are welcome...
I didn't consider sort of infectious diseases...thanks for the tip about the bathroom...I put a separate food and water bowl in there along with a litter box and a separate box with a cushion on the bottom...
Anyway, I can foster the cat for several weeks at least with no issues, assuming the cats don't fight with each other and there isn't any sort of medical reason why they couldn't coexist...
I'll PM you my contact info tomorrow...
Anyway, thank you for all your help... -
What color is she? I know there's a missing black cat in that area that I've seen flyers for.

The picture above isn't showing for some reason so I uploaded it to photobucket for Ithinkican. Here she is:

Any news on the kitty, did she find a foster home or her family?
