New To The area... question. — Brooklynian

New To The area... question.

Hi, I just moved in on Classon Avenue by St. marks over by the Jewish Hospital. I have heard conflicting reports on how safe this area is. I was curious if anyone hear could give me a semi-un jaded opinion of the neighborhood? Is it safe enough for my wife to walk around at night? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time guys. :)

  • if you walk smart, act like it's safe (aka project yourself as confident) and don't do anything stupid like wear an ipod while you're walking home, you'll be fine.

act scared, walk around totally oblivious, and ignore people on the street (smiling at little old ladies on their stoop = good idea) you're risking your safety

in other words, be a new yorker.
  • Thanks so much for your input. Ive heard the same thing pretty much everywhere. I just want my wife to be ok, I generally can avoid problems etc... A couple other people Ive asked have agreed. Thanks for your time, it is much appreciated.
