bartender swapping makes me sad — Brooklynian

bartender swapping makes me sad

pitu
edited November -1 in Park Slope
I was at Commonwealth yesterday for my friend's PhD success
(yeah! someone finished a dissertation!),
and was shocked to see Gary* from The Gate behind the bar.
The world has gone topsy turvy.

The Gate happens to be much closer to where I live, so I'm super bummed.
For you South Slopers, well, you're in luck.

*the really nice English guy,
did dayshifts at the Gate for the last million years
and played very excellent eclectic mix of music

  • Thanks funny, I was at Mooney's and overheard the bartender saying that the other usual bartender was working at the Gate that night.
  • Yeah, I heard Gary got canned from the Gate...total garbage...boycott the Gate
  • I don't have a favorite or least-favorite local bartender. This topic made me realize that while I've had bad bartender service in Manhattan, I have had good bar tender service at every neighborhood joint I've drank at. Many of the bartenders I've interacted with in Park Slope are friendly and quick and deserve a pat on the back for dealing with us. Outside of New York State I've had horrible experiences with idiot bar tenders charging different people different prices for the same drink at the same time, etc.. Overall, I never have the sensation that some obnoxious jackass is trying to screw me when I drink in Park Slope.
  • commonwealth had/has that hot chick bartender. i'm straight, but this woman's eye-contact made me weak in the knees.

The one with the short hair? She's really cool. She's given my husband and I an incentive to go there on Wednesdays instead of always going to Buttermilk.
  • I just hope that Gary, and every other bartender at Commonwealth, enforces their very important outdoor patio hours. I live kitty corner from Commonwealth and sometimes they "forget" to bring bring the drinkers back indoors. They're better about it sometimes than others. In the summer, when we keep our windows open, it keeps me awake. I hate to be a grumpy old man, but gotta respect the neighbors.

yes, short hair, super-skinny, tattoos. makes a good strong drink, too. (i was out with the drinking liberally group a couple of months ago and she made the drinks. i had FOUR. which for normal people is like 9. i half-remember walking home. i woke up on the sofa at 4 am holding a bag of potato chips. at some point i moved to the bedroom. it was quite a night.
  • Ah, the potato-chip-shuffle. We've all been there...

Is that the same woman with the big pretty eyes who bartends at Steinhof on Saturdays? Man, she destroys me. I have a hard time looking at her.
  • no idea. tall, thin, lanky, good lips, killer smile.

Well, It's definitely not Charlene or Sheila. I know there was a skinny girl working there and I think her name was Francesca but I dont remember her having short hair. I havent been in there on Wednesdays in a while though. I usually make it there on Thurs. and the weekend.
