Wong movers--alafairnadia recommended them on the board. Search and you'll get the number. Wonderful, super quick and incredibly professional.

yes, wong movers rule. though not sure of their licensure/insurance status, I can say that they've moved multiple pieces of electronic and extremely fragile stuff for me without mishap. multiple times. (harlem to wash heights, wash heights to prospect heights). unfortunately, my trusty treo became not so trusty and I lost all of my info. I now depend on paper and a CSV file I emailed to myself. PM me if you can't find their number.

i've used citimove.com for my past two moves and i've ended up with great people both times. you enter everything you need to move and then movers bid on you.
just make sure you don't check "licensed only" (unless you need it) because that adds a couple hundred onto the price. i spent $250 on my moves both times (2 bedroom apartments).
ps: within citimove, i recommend RVS (ray) and C&C movers (chris). both were really professional, quick, and careful. -
I just hired movers back in February - I wanted originally to use Rabbit Movers (they have a super cute website and come recommended) but they were booked for my day, so I went with Movers Not Shakers - nothing fancy, but SUPER quick and reliable. Flat rate - you just tell them what you have, they give you a really reasonable flat # and don't change it. Just tip 'em nice!

I used Brownstone Brothers for my move a few years ago. They weren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. They come and check out how much stuff you have, then give you a binding estimate, with a written contract for a flat amount so you know exactly what it's going to cost, with no surprises. I had them pack my stuff and do the move. I don't foresee a move anytime in the near future, but whenever my next move is, I'm definitely going back to these guys. Completely hassle-free.

I second Movers not shakers. You can fill out a quote request form on their website, basically saying everything you want them to move, and they call with a quote. I even added a few boxes and miscellaneous bags on the day of the move and they didn't raise the quote. They are notoriously an hour early but so fast, safe, and efficient. I know 3 other people who have used them recently and everyone has a great experience.

oh, just an FYI, for Wong Movers - you describe the move on the phone to them (approx # of boxes, how many floors they have to go up/down, furniture, etc). they give you a price. no one I know, including me, obvi, has had that price change upon their arrival. both moves, even with a 4 story walkup in my new place were about $250 + tips (I usually tip $25/person)

I love All Star Movers. I have a lot of antiques and they took good care of my stuff and are always prompt, professional, and hardworking. I have used them about 7 times.
