Kitchen Bar.. Good Restaurant — Brooklynian

Kitchen Bar.. Good Restaurant

edited November -1 in Park Slope
This restaurant is on 6th ave between 19th and 20th.. who knew Ps could extend that far up the numbers!!
Anyway.. We had dinner there this eve and I was impressed. We ordered no main dishes. ...3
people and we split these apps and "small plates'... without exception.. all were excellent// Gaucomole and chips, ceviche, spinach and garlic, 3mini burgers with fries, mac and cheese (which was actually rigatoni and superb) We had 2 glasses of wine and a margarita.. The bill came to $60.. We left $70 with tip for 3 people. and the portions were generous and no one walked away not feeling satisfied. We sat in the back of a very lovely room. The music started to get loud at around 9:30... geez I swear there is an automatic volume control because restaurants assume that after 9;30 people no longer want to talk to each other over dinner but would rather be assaulted with bad music. The Blue Ribbon is my favorite offender on the connection between time and volume!! So since we were sitting in the back and it was clear that there were at least 6 speakers in the space and that probably there were separate adjustments for volume on the pairs .. we asked if the volume could be lowered in our section. No kidding.. the waitress handled it and the volume was lowered and we finished the meal being able to talk.. The scoop is later on in the evening the bar fills up and there is more drinking than eating.. that is fine for a fri nite!! So sure the music gets louder as the night progresses and that is fine but I found it so accomodating that at the early hour the wait staff realized our request for lower volume was doable and it happened.. What a pleasure..
I don't mean to go on about music volume because trully the food and beverage were above average and though this might be a little up the numbers for some people the walk was lovely on this almost summer evening. Highly recommend... and I don't own this place... LOL!!!

After getting slammed for one of my first posts afew months ago, which was a restaurant review I am sensitive... and need to disclaim affiliation withe the place, except as a patron.. because on that first post people aimed their guns at me..

I love you people...
You are lovely and hostile at the same time!!!

  • Yeah, I've thought about going to Kitchen, but always get sidetracked by Bar BQ next door. They also have a lovely bar and great pork and homemade hot sauce.

    Thanks for the review!
  • mamacita.. I have tried Bar BQ and didn't enjoy it so much.. Frankly.. I don't like most of the bbq places in Brokklyn. Jakes on Columbia street is probably the best of the lot in my opinion but the last few times there my stomach isn't happy.. not bad food.. just a personal reaction so that one is off the list too.

Mamacita.. give Kitchen a try.. I bet you will like it.
  • I'll try it for sure!
Sounds like you had a memorable b-day. I love celebrating with food, it's the best!
  • Total crap the last time we were there...but, that was in the early fall and supposedly they got a new chef soon there after. My wife and I are veggies, so nothin' to say about BBQ, except everyone who's not loves the place...catfish po-boy, we'll be all over da' joint...thoug the smoke house is a bit much, even from out side (and I used to live Texas and ate beef back then...).

KB's drink were also a bit over priced for 6th ave in GWH.

But glad they are making a go of it.:)

well, that's true. they are slightly expensive for the 'hood. however, the thing i have to give them serious props for is the fact that they do have a decent list of original cocktails. at least they've got more variety to order than just a beer or a glass of wine.

food is good. not the best, but then... if you're gonna talk about the culinary options in GWH.... 'nuff said.
  • GWH... Greenwood Heights? Is that what that abbreviation means>> Geez lived in Brooklyn all of my life... all these neighborhoods were called Suth Brooklyn back then.. no more.. I know lots of these names are via Real Estate Brokers but sorry if my guess onGWH is correct I am thinking geez.. was this neighborhood named after the Cemetery or visa versa.
Sorry to be off topic which is Food on this thread.. But I am already confused as to whether people are referencing BBq or Kitchen Bar on this thread.
  • is it acceptable now to leave only a $10 tip for 3 people and a $60 meal especially if they were so accommodating....
  • red must be a waiter!!
yeah that tip was a little short I suppose.. less than 20%
  • I go to kitchen bar quite often during the week, and for lunches on weekends.
    Highly recommended.

I agree that it gets to loud with the music on occasion.
  • That's only about 16%. I'm surprised no one jumped on that before red did; when I first read the post I cringed at the thought of admitting to leaving such a stingy tip--especially since the poster seemed to enjoy her experience .
  • I checked with husband who actually paid the bill and he left 76 bucks on the table.. so I guess you can hold off your arrows!! Lol..
  • alright, I was just a little surprised, I wasn't trying to imply anything. and no I'm not a waiter but I believe in tip Karma.
  • We'll need to see a certified copy of the receipt. ;)
  • well can't provide a receipt but you need to trust in my honesty on this one!!
Basically I am, thinking F you at this point to this whole forum..
I made an honest mistake.. Didn't Geraldine Ferrara claim she knew nadda about her husband's taxes.. almost direct quote .. "He asked me to sign a joint tax return and I did.. I didn't ask questions.. we were married..... duh" And that set back the possible election of a woman president or vp by about 50 years.. way past my life time!!! All of you Hillary fans.. forgettaboutit.. and blame it on geraldine.... I rant.. and all based on the posisbility that I didn't tell the whole truth about my tip!! I must have no life if I am willing to go on and on about this on this forum..
Tomorrow I must remember to become a non-member here!!!!
  • I think that we were all teasing you. I'm sorry you're taking it so personally.
  • Red.. I am teasing you!!

I must have sounded very serious.
I really enjoy reading and posting here.
