yes you need -- practically every other act on that list is great!
    thx for posting the link
  • I'm going to see the concert in Prospect Park tonight, first time!

Should I bring a blanket to sit on or is this a standing room only sorta thing? What have you guys done in the past?
  • Go early and get a seat close up if you really like the artist . . .

I've listened from all over the place (including across the road with the other people with dogs...sound quality is marginal over there...) and the show is much better if you're close up in the folding chairs.
You can bring a blanket and picnic either inside or outside the fence, but it tends to be toddler-heavy in picnicland . . . one cranky babe can really get in the way. They do a casual bag check on the way in, so if you're toting a bottle of wine you might have to set up outside the fence.
  • I went on Friday and had a great time!
    Thanks for the advice!
Only down side: $6 bud (WTF?!)
  • i wish i'd seen you there, mamacita! (for one thing, i could have gotten you to get me a beer -- we were intending only a walk around the park and therefore had no IDs.)

    ralph stanley was SO amazing!
  • Subject: Ralph Stanley

    He was great!!
Ralph Stanley has some vocals on him!
The x-mayor guy on the stand up base was funny as hell too.
I came out of that concert thinking "WOW I just saw a living legend and he's still kicking ass!"
  • manu chao last night was amazing! Going again tonight.

    Viva Manu Chao! Me gusta!!!!
  • Listening to Manu Chao out my window right now. Saved $30.00.

Funny story about Manu Chao. I was in Chicago last summer and heard his set at Lollapalooza - really enjoyed it. I come home the next day and I'm in the apartment and I hear Manu Chao. It being a bit early for a flashback, I was confused for a moment...then I checked the Park music schedule and sure enough those guys beat me back to New York. It was a nice capper to the weekend.
  • Speaking of free music this summer, I have two free tickets to the New Pornographers on July 4th at Battery Park and I'm not going. It's a river to river event. First person that asks for them can have them.
  • Brooklyn Country Fair! I just learned it's happening July 8th
Sounds like a chance to hear some rockabilly!

Saturday, 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Prospect Park Bandshell. (718) 855-7882 ext. 45.
  • I hope Celebrate Brooklyn does a Bollywood film again next year.
DJ Rehka curated a SUPER fun selection, so cool that it was worth sitting around in misty weather as the temperature dropped into the 50s.
    Freezing, fun anyway.

We were also around for Africafete, and jerk chicken from the marketplace they set up. The music wasn't as exciting as previous years, but a good time on a lovely day . . .

    Anybody know the organizers?
I wish they'd use local talent as announcers -- the same two people, who I assume *are* the organizers of the events -- schlump up there every year. The guy talks, the woman stands by, it's excruciating. I hate to say it since they do good work, but it's true. Get a pro! Tap local talent to announce the sponsors and upcomings!
  • Subject: Celebrate Brooklyn

Celebrate Brooklyn is a program of a local nonprofit called BRIC. The two people that announce all of the shows are the director and artistic director of the program so I'm sure that it probably would add another layer of work to have outside announcers at each show.
