Stolen Garden Plants — Brooklynian

Stolen Garden Plants

Three of our bushes were stolen today during the light of day. It seems we need to start locking all our plants down. We are located on Park Place between Flatbush and Vanderbilt. Are the 80's back in force? Has anyone else had this happen? Wow!

  • There were sooooo many posts about this a few weeks ago on Park Slope Parents. Sorry, that's awful!
  • Linda Yang, former Gardening Editor of the NY Times sugested weighing down all srubs with chains and bricks in her urban gardeing book. That sounds so sad. What kind of bushes were taken?
  • We've had this happen several years in a row. We now chain the roots. It's so sad, but last year we lost a rhody and an azaela. We also installed a security camera, which came in handy when a fatal stabbing occurred on the corner in February!
  • I have an elaborate garden in the fron t of our house. No way will I now announce where I live.. I have done very elaborate plantings and decorative ornamentation.... So far so good but if things get stolen .. they do.. I am not moving from the city.. and I am not stopping my beautiful garden.
  • LOCK YOU PLANTS
  • 2 words.

    bear trap.
  • or you could just plant some maneaters...

  • This just proves my theory that people will take anything that isn't locked down. Did they steal the planters and everything? Wouldn't that be unbelievably heavy?
  • I just chained the foundation of my house.
  • the thief is a black male. riding a bike and watch on left hand.

my plants were stolen this morning. i have a camera system set up.

I'm gonna go back tonight to move all my plants to my back yard. i'm trying to beautified the area. but seems its not ready yet.

    plus i'm just so pissed.

does this guy only target new people to the area aka rich white folk?

i'm not even a gentrifier, i hardly make enough money to afford the plants that were stolen.
  • if any of you were relieved of a small pieris japonica, please let me know.

i found one -- without a pot -- on the sidewalk this morning. i potted it up and will add it to the community garden plant sale, but let me know if it's yours and i'll give it back.
  • You're going to the police, I take it?

Think he's selling them? Or just making his back yard really nice?
  • yay, sweet tea! that's very nice of you! you made my day and it's not even my plant
  • i lost few plants forgot the names. but the ones i know are some wild rose bushes, some ever green plant that flowers, a Christmas holi. don't know the other names :/.

he just left some on the floors and took what he could carry on his bike.

after i get it on my cf card. i'll call the cops. planning to get back to the building tonight. and gonna call them tomorrow.

just way too piss about it now.

the plants cost me time and money. i barely make enough to cover them. took me time to save up for them.
  • that one could be mine, is the one that flowers whitish flowers? not too big about like a feet tall or slighty less.
  • i'm gonna stake out the plant sale for stolen plants. i remember the bushes of mines like my hands. planted and cut in some places by me.

    people gotta fence it right?

btw how does the plant sale thing work? can anyone bring plants?
  • AW: check your pm.

the plant sale is a fundraiser for the community garden on st marks between underhill and vanderbilt.

  • I'm gonna put a you tube video up of the guy tonight as soon as i get a download off my camera system. and put his damn mug all over the hood. even at the plant sale too. so folks know who to look out for.
  • Go Armchair!

    Bad Boys, Bad Boys...
  • they never steal the boxwoods

but then again, no one wants them

beware garden gnomes are offensive to real gnomes

that's why they are so often pilferred

veets, i think we need some pictures of your garden
  • i didn't go back yet today. stuff came up. but after work tomorrow. i'll go download it and youtube the whole thing. hopefully someone recognize him from around the area.

he probably lives some where close. cause sweet tea found the plant pretty close by. and he came from the direction of underhill.
  • sorry about your plants, AW. that's so sad.
  • ah its okay, i'll get more plants next year and lock them down with mesh.

hey does anyone know the number for the police precinct?
  • karl, i love boxwoods. but even if i were inclined to steal them i sadly don't have a garden.

my insane neighbor does a ton of work at the PS community garden; be glad, sweet tea, you're not over here with her.
  • funny, i saw, what i think is the same guy scoping what was left of our garden that very day. heavyset, dreads, bike with a big basket. and yes, they were very pretty rhody's planted rather deep in the soil. ahhh city life.
