CSA

Which do you belong to? Why? Any experiences to share when choosing one? Recommendations? I am looking at the Bed Stuy CSA and the Clinton Hill CSA.

Thanks!

  • I just joined the Bed-Stuy CSA. This is my first time ever participating in one. I'm also eager to hear others' experiences.
  • We did the Clinton Hill CSA last year. We split a share with another couple. We ended up not eating enough vegetables on a weekly basis to make it worth it for us, but other than that it was a good experience. I recommend it to people who eat veggies every day.

We also did the egg share so it was great to get farm fresh eggs each week.

The vegetable and fruit selection was pretty good. It rotated each week. There were quite a few spinach and lettuce type veggies that I had never heard of (they were good).

Almost every week you got basics like cucumbers, potatoes and usually peaches or stawberries.
  • Thanks for the info. I appreciate it very much.

We eat a lot of veggies and fruits. And live where there is not such a fantastic selection all of the time. I was debating a full share for a single parent and a small child. I can get a half share with BS but not CH if I am reading correctly. I wonder if we could do a full one? It might be too much.

The Bed-Stuy is more convenient. I had originally planned on the CH CSA before I knew Bed-Stuy had one. I appreciate the care in the farmer they chose. That was nice. CHCSA is cheaper, but convenience might win out. :) They both look excellent.
  • I sent a check in to the CH CSA about a month ago and haven't heard back yet. The check hasn't been deposited.. I sent an email - no response. A phone call only gets you a pre-recorded message. Anyone have any info on the CH CSA for 2007, or experiencing the same? Before I sent my check in I was debating between CH and Bed/Stuy, CH won based on convenience, but if they're all full I'll try Bed/Stuy.
  • Email them again, that's how we got in touch with them last year. They were pretty responsive.
