Sub-$1200 no-fee studio in Brownstone Bklyn--still possible? — Brooklynian

Sub-$1200 no-fee studio in Brownstone Bklyn--still possible?

I'm moving back to Brooklyn after several years out-of-state. I'd love to live in Brownstone Brooklyn again (Park Slope, especially), and my space needs are modest, making a studio ideal. But my rent budget tops out at $1200 and a broker fee would be difficult. Are $1200 studios still possible to find in the Slope and environs, and if so, how without recourse to a broker?

Thanks all who answer!

  • I would say offhand that you may be a bit hard pressed on that budget in Park Slope, but if you are willing to push into Prospect Heights, then you will probably be ok, and if you are willing to press into Crown Heights, then definitely no problem.

Although if you are truly looking for something tiny, you might turn something up in Park Slope.
  • The only studio I saw in Park Slope for 1200 had no kitchen and was super tiny.

I live in Prospect Heights in a small RR 1 bedroom (275 sq ft) for 1,100.
I think it is difficult now to find apartments for that price in this neighborhood. I've been looking for a friend of mine, and little turns up. If you are willing to go a few blocks east of here you will certainly be able to find something and probably for around 1k.
