Soule Restaurant — Brooklynian

Soule Restaurant

I was walking to the C train at Clinton Washington and I noticed that there was finally signage for the new restaurant on Fulton between St. James and Washington. Apparently is called Soule (with an accent mark over the e) offering "international cusine". Anyone know more info on this place? I'm excited that a new restaurant is opening up on Fulton.

  • They are opening on Friday, according to the guy who handed me the menu as I was looking in the window. The menu seems to be Caribbean -- coconut shrimp, jerk chicken, roti. The menu says "lunch and take out" and they have some appetizers that look interesting. Prices mostly under $10.
  • Subject: i can't wait til they open

i can't wait to try it to see if it's good!
  • Hope the food is nice. The decor inside is pretty unattractive and the silly name. Soul, wait, let's add an e to the end with an accent to make it seem French. Sorry, too easy to make fun of. Let's hope the food is good though....
  • Subject: OK! The food is good!

I went and had an early dinner at Soule on Saturday. I had BBQ wings, spinach & candied yams. The wings were so succulent & flavorful! The spinach had unique flavoring to it--not your everyday average spinach. My friend had the stewed chicken which was also good & savory--very tender. We also shared some plantains which were very good & soft, not tough.

Just a note that this place gets VERY busy already and it takes a while to get your food. They bring you a bowl of HOT rolls to eat while you wait though.

I found the decor to be nice, attractive and relaxing. It is really a professional, clean, delicious addition to our Fulton St. corridor!
  • Here's a link to a write-up I did on Chowhound.

    SoulE on Fulton
  • Thanks for the info. Sounds delightful.

I saw on your chowhound site that someone said Kush is leaving. That is not true. I spoke with the owner today and he said they are not going anywhere. Just wanted to dispell this rumor as I read it on another blog where someone said Kush is moving to BedStuy.

Eh. I wasn't in love with the place.
  • Has anyone been here recently? I picked up a menu along my travels this weekend.

The food's pretty good but we haven't been back in a long while, I think because the atmosphere is...uh....kind of strange.
  • Wait--what does that mean? You gotta elaborate on strange!

I guess BrooklynJay's review above sums up my feeling about Soule too. I just didn't get the feeling that my wife and I were the target audience for Soule, I just felt a little out of place, like I was eating with the kids or something. But the food is really good, try it yourself you might feel differently.
  • I just moved into the neighborhood on Lefferts Place and tried Soule on my first night in my new apt because it was the most obvious restaurant nearby.

I liked the food. I had curry chicken, mac & cheese and candied yams. Yum! Prepared me for Thanksgiving early.

It was last Monday night and there was nobody but lil 'ol me in the restaurant, but service was good and that TV came in handy.

I will definitely eat Soule again, but I've gotta say...I'll probably order in. The vibe wasn't the best...but maybe that's because it was empty.
  • Leffertsgirl,

Yoy're just as close to Kush (very good food and 100% better atmosphere) and Brown Betty. Sorry, but Soule really dropped the ball with the decor and ambiance.

Kush, on Putnam (Fulton) between Cambridge and Grand; Brown Betty on Grand between Fulton and Lefferts Place.

I walk by Brown Betty every day on my way to the subway, but it's always closed. This past weekend I didn't have time to stop in, but it looks adorable.

I did notice Kush...stopped in and picked up a menu so I will definitely be giving that place a try.

    Thanks for the suggestions!
  • I ate a Kush last night and absolutely LOVED it. The food was amazing...had a chicken dish over wild rice. My waitress was awesome (and so complimentary of my natural...never hurts!) and the owner (didn't catch his name) came out of the kitchen and chatted with me for a while.

Really good people over there and the food was delicious. They have a new regular customer.
  • I'm glad you liked it. I think they are great at Kush too and the food is great. The owner is named Garcs (sounds like Jacques when he says it) and the chef is Sammy.
