The top 9 topics on this board...
... just as I type this.
Two have the word 'ghetto' in the title.
Two are about alleged gang violence.
Four are about crime or implied crime.
And by my count seven of them have already or will shortly become racially divisive.
My heart goes out to the person(s) attacked. I have also been mugged, not here, but in Scotland. It sucks.
Nevertheless, I am compelled to ask that age old question... are dh posters inordinately whiny?

Probably. If you read the board, you'd think it's the 80s around here or something... :-k

I'm getting kinda sick of the whiny posts that say 'why is everyone so whiny?'. We've had enough of those recently that it's getting boring.
People have every right to talk about things like local violence. I think we have too many wannabe censors on this board. -

Yes, It's me! Ronnie Corbett! -
Ronnie Corbett! I didn't know you owned a machine?
You've got to understand. To many of the Newcomers, our situation, that we've been exposed to for years, is all to new to them. Many of the Newcomers are from out of town and out of state, with a few out of the country. They're not used to this stuff. For years those that have been here could not enlist they aid of the local police. They, quite frankly, didn't care. Now that well to do folks are moving in, the police are doing the same.
Many of the youth don't have a support group in the neighborhood as there once was. They have no place to go for good guidance. There is no one to reach to anymore. Now more kids are joining the local gangs like the Bloods and the Crips. They are hanging out in the Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza an other locations. -

Might I respectfully suggest, that while a newcomer to the neighborhood from out of the country is not used to 'this stuff', for any and all definitions of 'this stuff', anyone who has the resources and initiative to uproot their life and start afresh somewhere completely different is probably prepared to deal with whatever they encounter and is not expecting conditions to be familiar, plain sailing, or under their control.

I respectfully disagree. I have seen ppl move into this neighborhood before the police presence increased and not more than three months would pass and they are packing to leave.
Many ppl move into this neighborhood because it is so serene during the daylight hours. That's when the real estate brokers bring by their prospective buyers and renters. When no one is on the street, this neighborhood looks like the ideal place to raise a family.
And it is an ideal place to raise a family. You just have to put up with more goings-on than you might be used to. Others may feel that they were misled because they viewed the neighborhood during its serene state.
There are many who have stayed, but if you look at some of the posts on this forum, ppl are complaining about incidents that threaten their security.
The ppl that are your neighbors that have been here for years take what has happened in stride.
Many of the new don't expect what has happened to others to happen to them. When it does, their attitude changes.
I did not only mention ppl from outside the country, I also mentioned ppl from other states and communities. The reactions are usually similar. -
The piles of dog shit and litter everywhere are the only things that really get to me. Besides that, I love our neighborhood...I've been here for 12 years and I'm staying...at least until I move to the 'burbs.
-
Not too much litter or dog droppings here. There was a time when you couldn't take a step with landing in a pile. Litter...nothing now, but there were days, many years ago, when all you saw was litter blowing around everywhere.

Come over to Bergen and Franklin, there's a ton of dog crap and garbage here and on the surrounding streets. Not to mention the various animal bones my younger dog loves to try to eat. I was talking to a neighbor the other day outside of her house and she saw a guy let his dog poop across the street. She asked him to pick it up and he just ignored her and walked away. I hate that since I have dogs and always clean up after them.

Those blocks need some street cleaning. I mean the ppl that hang out there are the types that used to hang here. They still meander over here to create their portion of trouble. All the neighborhoods were the same at some point. Many of the dealers are still in the area they just moved over to other blocks. Franklin Avenue below Eastern Pkwy has been a bad location for some time. As more ppl move in the destructive types will be pushed out. It's only a matter of time. The police will eventually become super active there.
