  • I'm up for da picnic! Post time and meeting place? :)
  • Time is posted already - leaving at 10-ish. Cars are still being worked out; a Zipcar or two may be needed.
  • Big Guy- Zipcars are going fast- if you wanna make sure you all have something, book AT LEAST one week in advance.
  • Hey I have a car, but it's probably time for it to happen. So....has anyone actually committed to getting a Zipcar? It's time for the driver/passenger hookups to begin...
  • I'm not gonna be able to make it anymore because of my houseguests.
  • 1. the gf and i have reserved a zip car that seats 5 and costs ~$100 for the day. divided by 4 or 5 people the cost is not so bad for a grand day out.

    2. we need to know by thursday if the car isn't needed so that we can cancel it.

    3. it's a station wagon, so there should be room in the back to kidnap em.
  • This sounds like fun, is there room for one more, i.e. myself?

I've foolishly signed up to volunteer for the Joan Osborne concert in the park that evening, but I can probably move my dates...
  • I think I'm in and would be happy to either ride with a zip car person or a non-zip car person and chip in on any points necessary.

also, if the plan is to leave at 10, I think at least one car should go to bensonhurst/bay ridge and pick up a bunch of dumplings and roast pork buns for the trip. we might starve.
  • oh, BTW sweet tea, Zipcar doesn't have any station wagons (did you reserve a hatchback perhaps?)
Anyway, if you all need something bigger, let me know. I can't commit to that day, so I hope you all have a fabulous time.

hmmm, you're probably right -- the gf made the reservation, and she told me it was a station wagon, but frankly, the information on the zip car site tends towards the poetic rather than the concrete, so she's likely mistaken. i'll look into it tonight. i know the decision was made on the basis of cheapest available vehicle.
  • Is this roadtrip still happening? I'd like it to be
  • Subject: Pot Luck for the Hike

Well, I have time on my hands today so I'll get the ball rolling on this one, if BG doesn't mind?

Here's the idea. It's basically like a pot luck/BYOB/BYOF party.

Not sure about the park rules as far as booze are concerned so try to be discrete and bring solid colored cups or a thermos etc...
If someone has a cooler please post!

To avoid everyone coming with the same item of food to share, post here what you'll be bringing!

    =P~ :D
  • Who's bringing the Box of Wine  :?:
  • I'm not going, but you're welcome to borrow a giant cooler from me.
    It's scary huge.
And since I'm butting in . . . Zipcar has those Matrix things that are stationwagons, at least they did at Flatbush/Sterling location. And those other weirdo vehicles that look like bread wagons.
  • That would be the Scion xB.

Mrs. C and I are bringing kimbap. I'm also bringing a thermos full of mojito for the hike. And maybe something else (not sure yet). Probably more booze as well.

Also, we have a decent sized cooler.
  • I have zero maternal instincts, cooking skills or anything else feminine/kitchen-related. So someone please help me out, what do you want me to bring? Other than my charming self. :?
  • Actually Pitu, while the Matrix is technically defined as a "station wagon," it's really more of a hatchback, at least for me- a child of the 70's when station wagons were station WAGONS.

Dunno about that grrrl. I'd never seen it before my friend drove up in one - we were laughing at him 'cause he drove up in a station wagon . . .
so it looks exactly like one to some of us!
    :D
  • I'm pretty sure the Matrix is the same car as the Pontiac Vibe. If that's true, an additional benefit of bringing that car is the availability of a 3-pronged AC outlet.
  • yes, we got the matrix, and i think you're right, carny, that it is the same as the vibe. (heh. vibe.)

for the record, zipcar calls it a "wagon" -- so you might need to set them straight over at the office, WUW.... :)

should we figure out passenger manifests? so that we know we have enough space? we've got 4 signed up for the matrix (me & the gf; dr j & h) -- i believe it technically seats 5.
  • At the "office" we call it a hatchback.
  • Can I get the matrix in wood paneling??

On another note, I haven't figured out what food stuff to bring, probably some wine, kettle chips, crusty bread, hummus... or KFC bucket-o-love =P~

We'll need music... anyone have a ghetto blaster?
  • And the head of the Fleet Department here defines it as a hatchback as well. You Zipcar members are a unique bunch. ](*,)
    Have a great Zip Trip!

maybe some bread/crackers or anything else you'd like with the following? I'm going to make a beef roast and the slice it up when cool for sandwiches. also I'm going to bring a jar of trader joe's artichoke spread. finally, I'm going to make a jug of undiluted (and bring some seltzer for dilution purposes) mint lemondrops. if someone reminds me on saturday morning, I'll dig up any spare paper plates, cups, etc I have in my house.

oh, I also have some baggies in my freezer filled with raspberries marinading in vodka. should I bring those? will we actually be able to hike?
  • i'll definitely make biscuit to go with any meaty items folks bring to share. and i'll make some other stuff too, as soon as i figure out what....
  • Christina,
No one's expecting anyone to cook. Bring what you like to eat. A quick trip to the deli or market for premade goodies... You can't go wrong with cheese and meats..

Alfy, not sure if I can do the hike, no sneakers except for my converse. So you're not alone if you just want to chill in the shade.
  • Hmmm... I just posted what to bring and the post has disappeared although I got a message in my inbox that I had posted it. Weird. Oh well, it's hump day today so how bad can it be.

    Again, I will bring
leftover plates, plastic forks and such, kitchen roll, cups,
triscuits, lime doritos and stuff like that
soda for anyone who wants to mix a drink,
fruit (any interest or is it too healthy?)
    cheese (good idea)
    ...blanket?

How many people are we going to be ?

Happy to donate my ipod if anyone has small speakers, though I doubt you'll like my music mix (lots of rap and old R'n'B).
  • I could whip up a batch of my famous White Castle burgers.
  • so here's the head count as i figure it -- i'll edit this post if folks tell me i'm wrong:

    BigGuy
    Sweet Tea & gf
    doctorj & h
    Carny & Mrs. C
    Mamacita
    Christina
    Machina
    Alafairnadia
    DeWalt_Russ & girlfriend
    Hillyer Junkie
    Orangina & husband

    so that's 16
  • I also got a PM a few weeks ago from Orangina & husband who planned on going.
