Western Union on 16th and PPW gone. What will replace it!?

The Western Union across from Farrell's on 16th and PPW is gone. It's a large corner space right on the 15th street subway stop. Does ANYONE have info on what could possibly be going here?

I hope it's a restaurant/art gallery, with outdoor sidewalk seating in the summer. There are lots of artists in the area that could use a good local space to show work. Kind of like 12 street cafe. But cheaper.

Rumor has it a brick oven pizza joint is opening next door to Farrell's. It looks nice so far: exposed brick, nice lighting fixtures, what looks to be a brick oven…

Selfishly, I'm at the edge of my seat because I bought an apartment 2 years ago right around the corner from Farrell's. So whatever opens at the Western Union could a.) prolong my home-ownership happiness (art gallery, bookstore, furniture store, etc.) or b.) upset me a great deal (dunkin donuts).

  • I've been wondering the same thing, and we've been watching the progress of the place next to Farrell's on a thread in the WT section below. I heard "Italian", this is the first I heard "brick oven pizza"....it's good news, because I'd rather eat my shoe than a slice at Sabella's.
  • it would be nice to have a new restaurant up here. and pizza is always welcome.
