Looking for a lawyer

edited November -1 in Park Slope
in order to deal with an extremely abusive and lazy landlord. I just can no longer deal directly with him and his harassing me, so I would like a lawyer fluent in housing issues who can help me out. Any recommendations?

  • i'd try bob dubno. he's in the slope, on 7th and president (i think). love him.
  • Isn't this the sort of thing that Housing Court arbitrates? Landlord-Tenant court, something like that.
  • they do handle it, but i'd hazard a guess that having a lawyer make a call, etc., could have a large impact really fast.
  • Yes, except I can no longer deal with my landlord one on one and would like a backup of sorts to let my landlord know I'm not stupid, I know my rights and will not back down to his verbally abusing me. I basically need a male voice because my landlord will not speak to a man like he speaks to me and I'm willing to pay for it because I can not take it anymore.
  • and thank you for your recommendation. I will call him this morning.
  • and also make use of the information on this great web site below...

  • Bob Dubno doesn't do landlord/tenant issues but they referred me to a lawyer in Manhattan who gave me some good advice for free. Thanks for the help. I will need to move just to not have to deal with this anymore, but at least I feel a whole lot less stress about it all.
  • i'd trust anyone dubno sent me to. i'm glad he helped you out.
  • Try Candace Carponter - she does tenants' rights stuff and works (volunteers, I should say) for the Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn group.
