and didn't he convince jesse helms to support something or other about human rights in china? (it was a long time ago; i may have it wrong, but i remember being SHOCKED as an nc liberal to see that jesse and i were on the same side of any issue.) refusing to talk to our ideological enemies is a very principled stance, but a poor way to effect change.

that said, i don't know much about his plan for africa, and i wouldn't describe myself as a bono fan per se; i just think that trying to do good is better than doing nothing.

believe me I'm not a fan (don't listen to his music) but the man is a saint for his commitment to fighting hunger and aids around the world.

Hunger, fine. As for AIDS, I don't think toxic AIDS drugs are the answer to poverty-caused diseases. People in Africa are dying of the same things they've been dying from for ages - malnutrition, contaminated water, etc. Except that now it's called AIDS.
