  • links please.
  • isn't the building across the street tall (just on the other side of underhill)? i don't walk down that way too often...
  • I like it.

And btw, we're complaining about 10 stories now? Oooh, 10 stories, how imposing!! This is New York, right? Or are you referring to St. John's and Underhill in Kansas?
  • I always wanted to live on the top floor of that laundry building, will be sorry to see it go, but I do like the new version.
  • In other news, Lucky the ghetto poodle has stepped down as mascot of Underhill and St. Johns, replaced by Blue Chips the Gentrifying Italian greyhound.
  • It looks like it has it's jeans rolled up as to prevent them from getting wet from puddles in the rain. Is that how the developer sees this neighbor hood... a puddle?
  • i am truaumatized by that building.
  • Subject: 9 posts!

It took y'all 9 posts to get a Lucky the Ghetto Poodle reference in? For shame. Seriously, though, why can't they just build a basketball arena on that corner? Someone over at FCR dropped the (b-)ball on that one.
  • The Starbucks that will go in on the ground floor is going to do a lot of buisness. Just kidding.

My God! What is happening to our F*cking Neigborhood!

    R.I.P Brooklyn.
  • That's a pretty stupid idea. Then again, anyone notice the freaking colossal building in the middle of the block on Clinton between Atlantic and Fulton? Obviously someone's asleep when they sign off on that shit. The excitement of construction noise barely down the block is something I'm not looking forward to.

    South Prospect Heights? Whatever.
  • Good thing i no longer live at Underhill and Lincoln Place -- my lovely rootop view would soon be obstructed. Ugly new buildings.
  • I like it.

It adds a nice bookmark to the Meier building at the opposite end of the block. Between this building, the Meier building and the entry work on the Museum (which the NYT in '04 called "one of the most attractive public spaces to be found anywhere in town"), Botanic Garden and Library, this small stretch of Brooklyn is turning into an interesting mini showcase of modern design.
  • I agree with sterling 2000.
Development is inevitable. I think we can be thankful our neighborhood is getting some nicely considered modern architecture rather than the cheap new middle-of-the-road stuff that some neighborhoods are suffering from.
i'm just thankful it doesn't look as ugly as the purple brick building that went up on Lincoln Place between Underhill and Washington a few years ago. I hate that thing.
  • i think it will do wonders for that corner.

damn this nieghborhood really is changeing fast. there are what, like 8 new luxury condo developments within a 5 block radius of unferhill and prospect place.

in 5 years this area is going to be completly transformed.

nothing but rich white people living in glass boxes in the sky.

now if they cold only get rid of that bodega across the street and turn it into a jamba juice our master plan will be complete. bwah hah hah hah ( evil laugh )

That building completely blocks our view of the Empire State Building from our roof.

    Cocksuckers.

The asshat got it all wrong. If you build high enough in South Prospect Heights, you cause a total eclipse in West Prospect Heights in the morning, Central Prospect Heights at noon, and East Prospect Heights in the evening. Even at dawn on the summer solstice (which happened to be today) this building will have trouble eclipsing much of North Slope, let alone any of South Slope.
  • I wonder if the owners of those new apartments will leave chicken bones on their corner sidewalk? Mmmmmmm chicken good.
  • it's perhaps better than a boarded up building? if only we could saturate the 'hood with apt's making it more affordable, only that would never be the case.
  • If you'll miss the sun... move to another high rise... like the one on St. Marks b/w Franklin & Classon ;)

I'd have to see it in the context of the other blocks it's on... but I'm sure it won't look anywhere near as bad as the new building on Washington between Bergen and St. Marks... it's ugly as sin, with the address engraved in huge letters down a strip of cement on the front of the building... plus it's on a dilapidated block... it looks ridiculous.

This new building will at least be on a decent block... I don't think it will be too bad.
  • it's development a gogo in SoProHo. when the library entrance is completed in 2012 it is gonna be nice.
  • I like the building... Wish they could have done similar with only 4 or 5 stories though.. It's going to tower over the rest. But guess that wouldn't give enough of an incentive to the developer..

As a friend who lives on that block said "finally now the 'not' laundry/drug den/pit bull park/ shady eyesore will be gone."
  • Subject: Emerging Markets

Living in an Emerging Real Estate Market sucks.

I hate the building that went up on Sterling between Washington & Classon. And it went up fast. Like everything else going up these days.

Change is good. If you got in on the bottom floor.

Can't wait to see what the neighborhood looks like in a few years. I imagine I'll be visiting from somewhere else though. Maybe riding by on a tourist doubledecker bus.
  • the dragon will return

    will you still feed it?
  • Only if Jackie Paper agrees to come too.
