Moving To Brooklyn, Any Suggestions?

I'm from Seattle and planning to move to Brooklyn, since I've never been there, I'd like some suggestions on what neighborhoods are best for a newcomer, I'm keeping in mind for safety, and price. Any suggestions?

I suggest you plan a visit. What is safety to you? What are you looking for, specifically? How do you feel about living near people of other races and cultures? What is your price level, specifically? Are you looking to pay $1200 for a studio, or is $1800 OK? Or do you need something bigger? Are you looking for proximity or an easy commute to Manhattan? Or is something farther alright with you? And what does farther mean to you, half an hour, an hour, etc.? You are on the correct board for choosing Brooklyn, but why are you choosing Brooklyn over another borough, or even outside NYC?

Um. Some of that might help a bit. Otherwise, move to Park Slope. All the cool people are doing it. Just look out for pregnancy. Either that or hipster up in Williamsburg. Bring your tight unwashed jeans.

Seattle guest, take a trip to the neighborhoods before you move. Check things out at night too. Every place has some crime.
Every place is pricey here, choose a place that fits your safety needs and pay that amount of rent.
Not vice versa.

I was referring more to the people that find a place on the cheap and then end up complaining that the neighborhood is dangerous/scary/whatever...
