Best number for the PD, non emergency? — Brooklynian

Best number for the PD, non emergency?

i tried calling the listed number for PD.

2x, no answer
1x, please hold, disconnect
1x, no please hold, disconnect

Tried 311, had them connect me and got an answer right away. I should have asked them for the number!

  • 72nd Precinct

Is that what you called? If they are no picking up or dropping the call, please call Community Board 7 718-854-0003 and file a complaint.
  • I thought that 311 was the way to get through for a non-emergency number. That way it's filtered and there is some accountability for the call. I have called 311 many times, and they always patch me through to the police station.

Well, it worked for me. However, I suspect that the PD is supposed to answer the phone! From now on, i'm going to bypass the 72nd and call 311.

When I finally did get an answer, via 311, I got someone who was possibly a bit of an idiot, though he did try to be helpful, I doubt that he was a P.O. I was trying to find a missing car, which the PD apparantly would know nothing about.

He gave me the number of a towing company that tows DWI's, and another one that tows Impounds. He warned me to call the Sheriff last (completely and totally the wrong advice) because i might have a warrant out against me or something.

The Sheriff's department completely rocks and couldn't have been more helpful. Problem solved.
  • Complaint to the CB or PM me and I will go direct ( I tip my hand ;) )
