Where can I find a theatre for a movie theatre snob?
Ok, I'm a movie theatre snob. I like big screens, stadium seating and THX (or equivalent) sound. I'm not paying $10 bucks to sit in a tiny screening room unless I'm watching a film at the Angelika that I can't see anywhere else.
I can find a theatre meeting my qualifications in Manhattan, but I'm new to Brooklyn. Any recommendations? Have car, will travel.
::EDIT:: I'm trying to find local/semi-local theatres in the nabe on those nights I don't want to go into Mahattan.

Ziegfeld Theater
141 West 54th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues)
20-foot screen, and a 1, 200 seating arena. This theater projects action movies the way they’re best viewed: BIG and LOUD. The theater was originally part of Ziegfeld Follies Vaudeville stage act and was refurbished last year. -

Uh huh. I've been living in Brooklyn all my life. Twenty three of those all my life years I have been driving and I still have trouble finding the street (Harkness Ave) that leads to the UA or Jordan's, from the Belt or from Knapp St. -
Off-topic, but: Livetotravel, I'm not entirely comfortable with that new avatar of yours.

I'm very familiar with the Ziegfeld. It's a great theatre. Sometimes on weekends I don't want to go into the city though.

Tell Bunchies not to be afraid, that's not a big "stick," it's my stick figure arms joined together doing a traditional, alcohol-fueled, Caucasian tribal dance. -
In all fairness, it looks like you are about to attack apollonia666's avatar.
I like BAM's theaters best in Brooklyn. They've got nothin' on the Zeigfeld, but to their credit they don't have annoying kids or gaggles of annoying teenagers. -

Yeah, with his big "arms."
I'm just hoping that Stacey's got my back (and has her lighter and hairspray with her), just in case. -

i now know to stay away from stacey and her hairspray :P. -
I have sought out professional advise and am told that the possibility exists that my stylish and manic avatar may indeed look agressive and scary.
I bow to this rendered opinion.
I'm changing to something else, as yet undecided. -

I haven't been to BAM's theatre. I'll check that out as well. Thanks.

the BAM is sort of hit or miss I think - some of the theatres are set up better than others. A lot of their top run type things they show in Theatre 3, which I think is the nicest - it's very steeply sloped, has a big screen, and is just a really nice looking room. Little Miss Sunshine is playing in that theatre now, methinks.

I went to the matinee (11:35 a.m. on a sunday, baby!) at the UA Court St (or State St?) - not half bad. no one who makes noise bothers to see movies that early and it was a mere $7. I may do that again next sunday.

Yeah, but although you avoid obnoxious adult noise with that strategy, depending on the movie, you might run the risk of obnoxious child noise. :x
The Pavillion on PPW also has matinees, and it's walking distance. -

the UA is w/in walking distance, too. and I saw an action movie so no kids. I'd skip harry potter there, tho. I think I'm going to see SoaP there next Sunday. -
the larger of the bam cinemas is superb--ultrawide screen, comfortable and unobstructed seating, state of the art sound and frequently some of the best movies playing.
flicks with great cinematography and soundtracks really benefit. when "apocalypse now redux" played there it was mind-boggling. -

But that theatre sucks. I mean if this person is looking for big screens and stadium seating.
