Crown Heights: Park Place/New York Avenue?

Serious comment:
It's my block. My wife and I have been here for five years. Some of our neighbors are here for fifty! We like it. Convenient to the subway, Prospect Park, a great supermarket on Fulton St. (Foodtown). Mostly quiet. A few new restaurants popping up.
Sarcastic comment:
Of course, this is New York, and if you start an argument with your crack dealer you could get shot. What's that? You don't buy crack? You'll be fine.
But serioulsy, again: Come to Crown Heights and SAY HELLO! -
It will be six years for me in Aug, it is close to the
subways, buses, Lirr, Post Office, Banks & supermarkets and minutes to Manhattan. We have many wonderful neighbors some who some time share their music out of their car which is never late into the evening (smile) & the corner of nostrand can get a bit crowded but I have never had a probelm. My daughter prefers to use Newyork less people.... Don't let me forget ..... Parking is tight, when going out and coming home late it is extremely hard finding a close spot.......over all I love my neighbor. -
I'm around the corner on Sterling and New York, and I love living here. Most people have been quite friendly to me and my dogs. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Thanks for the input; I guess one of my thoughts is walking home at night from the subway, from Eastern Parkway, say, at midnight. (Don't get me wrong, I have lived in many places ... Egypt, Paris, London, Germany, Vietnam ... it is always good, though, to get advice/impressions from "locals" who actually walk the streets.)

#1 Get off on Nostrand (#3) or President (#2), it is closer than the Eastern stop. Unless you just meant Eastern Parkway in the general sense. In which case please disregard.
#2 I haven't had any trouble walking home in the middle of the night. -
i live on new york and lincoln, and i think the blocks off new york are some of the nicest in crown heights. and if i recall correctly, park has some beautiful houses.
i am a young, queer woman, and i feel safe walking home at night. -
I've lived on Park Place near NY Ave for five years with wife and two teenage boys. It's a very quiet block with mostly homeowners, especially towards the NY Ave end of the block. My sons prefer to walk down NY Ave from the train, but my wife and I usually walk down Nostrand. I think my kids get picked on more than I do. Must be something about kids. A new restaurant, Secrets, just opened on Nostrand bet. Park and Prospect that is very well done and great addition to the community. We also have a new police commander who has taken some interesting initiatives. Like putting giant light columns and a Skywatch thingamabob on the notoriously over-populated intersection of Park and Nostrand. First time I've seen anything like that in these parts, and I've been living or working in the area since 1975.

I usually walk down New York from Eastern Parkway, it's quiet and I feel safe. Sometimes I take the dogs out for a quick one at 12 or 1am, and have had no problems whatsoever.

Thanks to all who have responded thus far. And if anyone wants to meet a new neighbor over a glass of wine, etc., let me know.
Howdy, Stranger!
