What's up with the mixed up signs in the Carroll Street subway station?

On the platform the signs for Queens/Manhattan and Smith/9th Street & Coney Island are on the wrong side.

I usually use the Bergen St. stop, and I've only used the Carroll St. station a couple of times - and each time I've gone the wrong way. Now I feel better that it's the signs and not my bad sense of direction.
