Shooting on Monroe Franklin — Brooklynian

Shooting on Monroe Franklin

Does anyone know anything about this? I was walking across Monroe on Franklin at around 8pm tonight and saw a large scuffle about halfway down the block between Franklin and Bedford. I actually heard it from a block away - I thought it was a game or a party or something, lots of voices raised I thought in fun but when I turned the corner it was 15 or so teenagers yelling at each other, with some holding others back from each other. Right as I was walking past I heard five quick gunshots - I don't think anyone got shot, someone must have shot into the air to break up the fight. I live about a half block from there, I called 911 and they were quick to respond, but was wondering if anyone else heard and does anyone know what happened?

  • Now it is four out of five top posts about this destructive activity, moderator please this is destroying the morale of this community and it should stop. Are you going to do the Marathon this year? support the runners? run the Bed Stuy 10k? open mike? Kareoke? count blades of grass, get onboard!
  • things are pretty grim both when somebody has to resort to shooting just to break up a fight AND when unregistered forum posters implore the webmaster to censor the content to more wholesome material.
  • Not wholesome Jimmy just constructive, now run along and in the words of thegreat Fred Flintstone " go play on a freeway". Love ya 8)
  • Sounds like whitewashing to me. You can't deny that these things are occurring and that people are curious about them. Try a more laissez-faire approach, why don't you? Live and let live. Post and let post.
  • Yeah come on, that's ridiculous. I was walking past right when it happened, it scared the hell out of me. People from all around were out on the street looking over to where it happened, asking questions about it, looking for information. What is the point of a community message board if you cannot ask the community a question about something which happened in the area? I love the fact that I can find out about people's favorite restaurants, parks, gyms, drum circles and be-ins on this site. But it's ridiculous to expect people only to talk about good positive things on a forum like this. If you don't like the topic, don't read the thread.
