Hi,

I'm looking for a Gym with a laned pool for me to excercise in. I checked out the YMCA but it seemed like there was childens summer camp there all summer.

Can anyone recommend other places with a pool? One without swarmed with kids. Somehwhere easy to get from park slope. I don't drive. I'd like to spend less then $75 a month.

  • there have been other discussions about access to a swimming pool. I remember Kosher Dave also wanting a pool on another thread. There's the synagogue on garfield and 8th avenue that has a swimming pool. There's also the Eastern Athletic Club on Grand Army Plaza they have a pool facility.
I don't know the costs, maybe others can help you with that.
  • I can't swim any more due to bursitis in my arm but I recall that the public pools are pretty good, IMHO. The yearly membership IS something like $75 and they have indoor and outdoor pools and gyms all over the city. In the winter I used to go to the Leroy Street pool. No kids. I have been to Red Hook in the summer and in another thread, they say that the adult pool is not bad. The YMCA costs around $55 a month. I pay 88 per month for a citywide membership. The pool in the slope is not new but there are newer YMCA pools in the city that look great.
  • the y at court and atlantic is in a brand new building with a brand new swimming pool.
also i hear the atlantic ocean is nice this time of year.
    $4 round-trip via a metrocard.
in brooklyn: landfall at coney, brighton and manhattan.
in queens: rock rock rockaway beach.
  • i heard something about being able to swim in the berkeley carroll pool for a certain small sum?
  • I swim at BerkCaroll. You can buy a set of swim passes that give you daily unlimited access to the pool and gym. I usually buy them at the counter but I'm sure they have it on their website. It's good for lap swimming.

I would try asking at the Y to confirm what the schedule is.
