The Five Spot - BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
The ambience is definitely something to be desired and the decor is down right ugly. The food is not hot and a glass of soda with your dinner will run you $5.00 per glass. My bill totaled $90 and half the bill was soda and gratuity. The service is horrible, but yet you are required to pay a 20% gratuity to the waitress who serves you in belly tops and too short shorts with names like Fire. Why is the consumer required to pay a 20% gratuity for awful service, but the Lord only ask for 10% and "he provides peace that transcends all understanding". My visit to the Five Spot was definitely a major disappointment especially for a black owned eatery. Malik you need to step your game up or you will lose out big time in the end.

where is this aplace?

The Five Spot is at 459 Myrtle Avenue.

I've always thought the place needed some money pumped back into it for a renovation. All of the accolades on the wall in the takeout area are all from 10 years ago when it was new.

The food SUCKS! -
I can't get enough of their Mac n Cheese, personally. I agree that the service is subpar, but a sacrifice I'm always willing to make because I do enjoy the food. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there...

The food is horrible. I had the sunday special and had to dump the fried chicken, potato salad and everything else, even the slice of cake. I dont know how they manage to stay in business. I wouldnt eat their food if they gave it away free. I guess the patrons go next door and drink themselves into a stupor and then order food in the lounge or the takeout. At that point, their tastebuds must be numb to the tasteless food served to them . -
We've never eaten in the reataurant but we've picked up food (or had it delivered) numerous times. I'm also a big fan of the grilled honey mustard chicken and I love the mac 'n cheddar.
Personally I like Ruthie's better as it doesn't seem as fatty. -
$5 for soda is outrageous. Even the places I've ate at in east side manhattan haven't been over two and a half. Which is also outrageous. Their take-out menu shows $1 for a soda. Next time just order the soda for take out, lol. I'm not a fan of mandatory tipping, especially at 20%. I know why some places with heavy tourist traffic in manhattan do it, but I don't think that it has a place in Brooklyn. Incidentally, I find that mandatory tipping generally REDUCES the amount of tip I leave. Most added tips seem to run 15-18%, I find that when left to my own devices, I generally tip 20-23%. So thanks for saving me money, suckers.

They make good fried, fatty foods. Anyone who expects anything other than that is setting themselves up for disappointment.
The service has always been horrible there. Every time the delivery guy comes to the house he claims he has no change, he's trying to scam a bigger tip out of me.
So now I do take-out only. -
I don't eat meat only seafood and vegetables. I haven't eaten from there I think since before they remodeled. The crab cakes were "can't find the crab" crabcakes strictly breadcrumbs. Their veggies mostly have meat. The banana pudding was out of a box. Coconut cake stale. LAWD I miss Sprinkles. If you want GOOD soul food go to soul spot on Atlantic and Smith. They actually even deliver to Fort Greene/Clinton Hill it just takes a while. Ruthies is good too but Soul Spot is the best. Truth God.

Priced out as usual yet you wonder why people vex. -

Actually, speaking of Jive Turkey -- I'd only tried going there the once, and got one of the pre-made sandwiches -- but when I unwrapped it, there was mold on the bread. Can someone who's had more experience with Jive Turkey let me know whether that may have just been a fluke? -
no actually i still go for the rice krispie treats even though i have had consistently inconsistent food and service there. and even the rice krispie treats are a crap shoot - 1/3 to 1/2 half of the time they are stale. but when you get a just made batch....lawdamercy!

Wrong. I knew you'd make up some imagined crap. Sprinkles demise has zero to do with being priced out. trust me. -

Haha! Your choice. The feeling is mutual though. -
You guys MUST stop bickering. You've been warned multiple times by several mods and an admin.

Carnivore, c'mon let the boys play, it's good clean fun and nobody is getting hurt. Please. 8)

What's getting hurt is the neighborly tone of this board. This is not how to treat a neighbor. You've all been warned. Your points of view are all welcome here. Personal attacks are not.

He says "trust him" when I know for a fact what happened to sprinkles. I was very nice. I just told him the truth. That is not a personal attack. Haha trust me a personal attack would be WAY more severe than that. Do you trust all your neighbors? -
If you know something different, than tell us what you know and how.

This is NOT being nice. Don't pretend otherwise.
If you disagree with someone, tell us your point of view and back it up with something. -
It's a lil lockerroom humor, no harm in that. C'mon, we promise to play nice, you have my word and I speak for the Guv and Any'd. Any of us screw up lock it down. When Guv called me miserable and old I was cool, c'mon ladies cut us some slack.
