on a MOD note, i've moved this out of the CH forum, since it's not about CH.
You really should explain this move!

Sweet tea, you really have to explain this action, I am very curious as to your motivation and the thought process behind it.
  • I think I can. Neighborhood boards are for neighborhood related discussions. Broader discussions about social, political, philisophical issues etc. can either go in Brooklyn and Beyond or in the lounge which are catch-all boards for issues that are not limited to just one area.

Since this is about something that happened in Newark it went into Brooklyn and Beyond instead of the lounge.

Its all laid out in the Rules
  • This was moved initially to Ft Greene/CH/Bed Stuy for what reason? What were you thinking? Why?
  • It wasn't moved TO FG/CH/BS, it was started there by a poster. It was moved FROM there for the reasons I stated above.

BTW, there isn't someone sitting by the computer waiting to answer questions so be patient and wait for a while if you don't get an answer immediately. Even better, post your question in ASK BROOKLYNIAN so that mods will be sure to see it.
  • deadbolt, homeowner has guessed correctly. this thread was originally on the Crown Heights board (other CH), but since it was about events that took place in newark, i moved it.

i'm not sure why that move is so upsetting to you. but that's "what i was thinking".

you know, if you registered, you could pm the appropriate mod with this kind of question, instead of waiting for one of us to happen back to the thread.
  • How did it arrive on the Ft. Greene page, because that is where I saw it, I never go to Brooklyn and beyond?

it started on that page!!! it got moved to brooklyn and beyond.
  • I went back and checked. It did indeed start on the CH board. If you go there you will see the topic heading Moved:The Black Community's Silence.

The way that it works, moderators have two choices when moving a thread. They can leave what is known as a shadow thread, (which is what you are seeing on the CH board) or you can move it without leaving a shadow. 99% of the time when a mod moves a thread because its not appropriate we will leave a shadow behind so that folks that were posting there can find it.

The 1% of the time when we don't leave a shadow its because 1) the thread is spam and is being deleted completely or 2) a poster has hit an incorrect button and asked us to move the thread before anyone posts a reply.

Its really pretty simple. Threads get moved or split like this one to facilitate more and better discussion and so that they don't get derailed with people starting discussions that have nothing to do with the original post.
  • it was never, to my knowledge, on the FG page. perhaps you are thinking of a different thread. i'm still not sure why it is important.
