reserving bbq spots in prospect park?

anyone know whether it's possible to reserve one of the bbq pits in prospect park, or whether you just have to show up early in the day to claim one (if so, how early....?)? thanks!

No reservations, just show up by 8am (earlier if possible) to snag one.

That sucks. I went running early on Saturday and wondered who wants to BBQ at 8am. So these people were just filling seats for the party later on?
Jeez!!

On another note, the trash left behind bugs me, especially on the Flatbush Avenue side. Why can't people use bins?? Especially if they come back to the same spot on the next day. Unbelievable.

Groups of 20 or more can reserve a space, but I don't know how that matches up with the grills. I went to an office party once that actually got a permit...

I don't believe a permit equals a reservation, though. Some acquaintances of mine organized a large multi-family get together over the spring and the woman who obtained the permit assumed that she had a reservation and was outraged when there were other people gathered in the space for which she held a permit. Park rangers were called in- it got ugly- and she ended up having to concede to misunderstanding. I would always suggest getting there early to nab the spot and be prepared to defend it if necessary.

(As for me, I would always be happy to share since I cannot be bothered to sit at an empty party spot for several hours prior!)

Ech.. just forgive me now.. I have lived in Brooklyn all my life and have used the Park and loved it and hopefully gave back to it for many years.. so this "innocent" remark percolated something ancient in my spirit that cued in to ""Is one side of PP different than the other??"

No, that's not what I meant at all. Sorry if it came across that way. Probably pure coincidence, it's just something I noticed on various morning runs. I also noticed that the ducks seem to prefer hanging out at the Flatbush side and I'm sure that means nothing either.

I've went to the flatbush side every sunday for the past few years for the drumming circle, which is kept very clean. When I moved here, I had a guy tell me to avoid that side of the park when I rode my bike (which I do every weekend). Something about chocolates and vanillas not mixing very well. It was actually kind of funny once I stopped feeling offended and realized that he was kind of chocalate/vanilla himself.
