Yoga in the Hood.

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
Hi, I know these "Where Can I find a good ...?" posts are getting tedious but so is a lot of other drivel on these boards.

So, where can I find a good Yoga studio around? Here's the kicker: I'm not into Hot Yoga. I've seen that place on Flatbush but it seems like they only offer Hot. Anyone have more detailed info than I was able to gain from peering into the window?

Thanks.

  • Yes! There is a great place on 5th and Warren/Prospect called Yogasana Center; I've been going to the back class and the beginner's series and I'm very happy there. The teachers are great. There's also a place more directly in PH, which is called Shambala yoga on St. Mark's and Washington, but I haven't been there.
  • Someone in my building goes to Shambala Yoga on St. Marks and Washington and loves it. It's a small studio, but I've heard the classes are less crowded in the summer, so it might be a good time to try them out. www.shambhalayogadance.com/ for schedule and prices.

Park Slope yoga and their sister school Devi are cool. They are located across the street from each other on Union between 6th and 7th Ave. I would highly recommend the vinyassa/jivamukti classes taught by Robin. I have taken her class and it is challenging for all levels.

I am too new to yoga to know what anasura is, but Yogasana is all about the Iyengar practice of yoga.

I'd point you towards this article even if I hadn't written it...
    :)
Profiles the yoga studios in Park Slope-- some may be too far from you, but it's a starting point. My favorite is Jaya, but at the south end of the slope it's a good bike ride away.

I just moved to Crown Heights and would love to find a local studio nearby. Will check out Shambala soon...
