Know a good jeweler? — Brooklynian

Know a good jeweler?

I have an heirloom pearl necklace that needs repair. Any recommendations for someone I can take it to? In Brooklyn would be great, but I'd go to Manhattan with a good rec.

  • Ooh, I have a necklace that needs re-stringing, so please everyone share.

I keep thinking I should look on etsy for someone local who makes necklaces, and then just ask them, but I'd be more comfortable with a recommendation, too. Or maybe a lesson, and some proper tools.
  • I had mine restrung by the jeweler across the street from the large supermarket on 7th Ave. The price was not bad, but it took a while. I can be more specific if you are interested....
  • I need some nice earrings repaired and want a good jeweler. On 7th near Carrol or about? Thanks.

How did they do? I don't care how long it takes; I just want them to do it carefully and well (my piece is an antique). Would you share the price? PM me if you prefer. Thanks!
  • I do not remember, I think 80 or 90 dollars. They restring pearls by the inch. My necklace was around 17 inches and at least 80 years old. The appraiser that I brought it to after it was restrung said they did an excellent job.

    Good luck!
  • what large market on 7th?
  • GARRY jewelers on 5av and 10th or 11th st.
They've been there a million years and do repairs on premises.
I had a ring resized by them.
  • Subject: jewlers to AVOID

There are two jewelry stores on 7th avenue owned by the same folks. One is Treasure Chest on 7th Ave and 1st and the other is on 7th between President and Union (I'm temporarily forgetting their name).

They lost my watch for weeks when I brought in for repair two years ago and kept telling me that it was still being repaired and then finally told me that they had lost it, wouldn't give me my money back, gave me a crappy replacement that was not worth the same as the watch that they had lost. When I finally filed a report on Better Business Bureau, they suddenly found the watch, fixed it and gave me back to me and I gave them their crappy watch back.

    Don't take your stuff there.
