Arrests on 23rd St. last night-08.30.07
Were folks home for the car break in in front of 312 23rd St last night?
We called 911 and within 5 mins we had undercover and 3 cop cars busting 2 guys. Seems they were breaking into an older Honda that we have seen "moved around" the block each week (and on 24th St.) by a somewhat shady guy. I have a feeling this was not a random break in. Several of the neighbors came out and attested to this.
As I have posted before, there have always been some crime issues (mostly drug dealing, or people partying a bit too much across the street) on the block since were across the street from the cemetery. The construction sites (or vacant houses like 312, which was bought by our friendly 'nabe developer  to be demo'd next month) don't help.
I have personally been working with the 72 Pct. via the Community Board to keep the guys off the block, with much success (3 busts in the past 2 weeks). But, as the Capitan of the 72nd Pct. told me "once word gets out a block is hot with the cops, the dealers just move to another block...then back to ours when it cools off."
That being said, we're in NYC, so you have to expect some of this to go on, in any neighborhood. So I would not worry too much. You just may see me get involved

Yep, we got questioned by the cop when we came home but had never noticed the car before.
Here's hoping that the breakers-in wanted that particular car and aren't looking to break in to any particular car on the block! -
I think it was an isolated and VERY specific instance...never happened before and the "guy" who moved the car there took something out of the trunk when he switched cars.
I have a feeling our would-be thieves were looking for something...IT. -
Another update...2 drug busts at the top of 23rd and 7th Ave last night, early eve. Seems the 72nd Pct. has been VERY busy here as of late. Fine by me...tired at having to call them!
Howdy, Stranger!
