Does anyone know Dreamweaver (PC) — Brooklynian

Does anyone know Dreamweaver (PC)

Help!

I cannot get this site to upload properly and need the assistance of someone who knows Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 (PC version). I'm sure it is one simple thing I am doing wrong but any help would be appreciated!

Feel free to PM!

thanks.

  • you'll have better results uploading the files via a separate FTP program like Transmit rather than DW's built in FTP program
  • Can you FTP at all? If you can, the problem usually that the file is uploaded into the wron directory. Instead of hitting the upload button, drag the file to the directory you want to put in in.
  • Thanks,

I figured out the FTP bit and I did have some directory issues but seemed to have fixed them. I don't know HTML very well and it has been very frustrating.

Dreamweaver's FTP program actually did a better job in seamless transfer of files to the server once I got it working. But there is so much I need to learn. I wasnt sure WHY I couldn't get the website to stop looking for files on my C: drive once on the remote server....? the links remained "C:/..." and were therefore, null.

I thought DW would fix that linking issue, but I had to do it manually (universally) for the entire site once uploaded to the remote server. It seemed counterintuitive and the "help" guidelines didn't really address it....

now my template file is realy buggy:

it only gives me a code preview in Firefox and then is real buggy in IE7.
The javacripts act real wacky with ghosting....?

    any suggestions?
  • what do you mean by 'javascripts act real wacky with ghosting...?' link?
does the javascript behave properly on your local machine?
  • ^No, the javascripts in my table menu ( of my template) are behaving strange on my local machine when previewed also.So I am trying to figure out what the problem is.

On my navigation menu rollover (with the mouse) the colors change as I want. But when the colors change it also seems to show older deleted text from a menu underneath and it flickers between the old and new text ( the ghosting as I call it).

I keep deleting the entire menu table and rebuilding it, and it does the same thing -but only in IE7 previews.

In firefox all of the formatting disappears and the text is no longer formatted, etc. and sometimes I completely lose the template attached to the page. I don't get it.

It may have to do with conflicts in my CSS(?) i'm guessing. I did a full virus and spyware scan to make sure things were okay and all is clear.

I am a total beginner so it is likely something I am missing or doing wrong, but I am completely out of answers here.
  • the Dreamweaver template you're using probably predates IE7, check out the adobe site if they have an updated version that is optimized for IE7 + Firefox.

or you can use a third party javascript navigation menu like Milonic:
    http://www.milonic.com/

if you're using the DW design view to make the javascript menus that in itself will drive many people mad and the quickest way to get it to work would be to use the code view. hth.
  • are you using spry widgets for building the menu? you might wanna check it out:

and make sure your DW8 is updated to 8.01/2
  • Yo Q,

Thanks for all of your help, I have a lot of reading to do!
I am going to look at all of these things. In the mean time,I started over with a fresh template ( its working correctly now) and I needed the practice anyway.
